For a very long time my relationship to the furry fandom was extremely casual. I made animal art for furries, they paid me money. The people I interacted with were good folks, sometimes a little weird, sometimes a little socially awkward, but well-meaning. I could handle that. They were basically nerds. The problem with both television and shit storms is that the crap just keeps coming back.

Ugh yes, I felt the same way.
It's really sad, and just seems like a huge waste of time that the folks involved could be productive.

It's really better to just not pay attention to that. I've luckily missed most of it.
And honestly, workplace drama or other RL-stuff can get just as bad, it's just not always as easily accessible.
