holy god what is this asshattery
For a very long time my relationship to the furry fandom was extremely casual. I made animal art for furries, they paid me money. The people I interacted with were good folks, sometimes a little weird, sometimes a little socially awkward, but well-meaning. I could handle that. They were basically nerds. I'm well-acquainted with nerds of all sorts.
As such I couldn't really understand why most of the internet despised furries so very much. They were just another group of nerd-dome to me. Their perversions are no weirder than the batshit sick stuff in the depths of the weaboo dungeons. Diapers and scat have been around longer. Most of it is entertaining and wtf-inducing more than it is horrible. SO what's the deal?
Having followed the latest shit-storm, reading many of the outrageous responses, and seeing what the drama-mongers from other quarters see almost daily, I can say that I understand why everyone hates the fandom. Jesus, what a mess. I don't think I've ever seen so much insanity and communication dysfunction in one place ever in my life.
It started out kind of entertaining in a sad way. Now it just makes me want to bash my face into a wall. Just looking at it makes me feel less psychologically healthy; I can only imagine what it's doing to the people involving themselves in it.
I still like making art involving people with animal heads for heads on occasion, but damn man. I might be getting cynical about it.
