I know this is not against the pairings you're wanking about, just against the retarded shippers who proclaim their ship is canon because of suggested things, like America and England cosplaying as Batman and Robin. Everyone got the hint it was a shiptease and afterwards... I don't really know. The fans you're mentionning think it's really canon and not something done just for fun. As someone who prefers platonic USUK or USUK as a dynamic duo instead of a pairing, it reaaaaally gets annoying.
And I agree with all this "ship this or GTFO". Ships are like tastes and colours, therefore you can't force someone to ship it because this is canon and the rest sucks balls, etc... Austria/Hungary is considered canon. I HATE AusHun because I really don't like their dynamics and I don't care if it's canon or not.
Oh yeah, AusHun is another pairing not mentioned in the actual wank but which get's annoying :/. They ARE regarded as the 'only 'canon' het couple in the manga'. And *yes*, we do get the impression that Hungary has a bit of a crush on Austria, and there have been *hints* that Austria likes her too. But only hints. It's never actually canonically confirmed that they are a two-way couple. So it annoys me when people refer to them *as* a canonical couple. I like the two of them as a friendship pairing, and if other people like them as a romantic pairing then that's fine, just don't go insisting that the two are *canonically* a pairing.
They *were* married in the past (Austria and Hungary were once unified historically). Though exactly what the ins and outs and 'meaning' of their marriage was is up to people's head canons.
Honestly, the more and more I've been in fandom, the more and more I find the rampant desire to prove X/Y is canon ridiculous. The only reason I like anything as canon, or even heavily ship-teased, is because it means more of their interaction, adn therefore more production of fanart, doujin, and merch of those two characters together.
Ship preferences are exactly that--preferences, and, for a lot of people, canon means absolutely NOTHING. I mean, look at all the people who still ship Harry/Draco and Zutara. They don't care, because their ship preference happens to be different than canon, and that's fine! If it's what makes you happy, excellent. Carry on.
Canon is not the end all, and I wish people would stop using it like it's some magical word that acts as a certificate to prove their pair is ~The Best One Ever~
[edit] I also want to add, sometimes I think people are so vehement about their pair being canon because they think it will somehow make all their rival pairs disappear. I'm sorry, but if UsUk ever does become canon,
( ... )
Some of the fandoms I was in before Hetalia would have one character in more than one canon ship, and it was just as crazy seeing people argue over which ship was the "real" canon despite that the character had clearly dated both of them in the series.
Even if you get something at the status of "canon" it doesn't say that it's the only pairing that will and ever happen. Especially with something like Hetalia, where the time in the canon goes over 2,000 years at least. It's impossible for me to believe over that time, they'd only have one person they'd love and THAT'S it.
I completely agree. Rival ships will not disappear. In fact, the reason I love a lot of non-canon pairings is because I as a fic writer and RPer enjoy making up how those two nations would act around each other when in a relationship. So I'm more inclined to write about something that isn't in canon than what's already been shown. And I'm sure everyone else who ships other things have their own reasons that they won't give up on no matter what.
Have you wedged your way into my brainmeats? This is a rant I've had in my head for a long time, but could never articulate without sounding like an ass.
Honestly, USUK is like H/Hr and Zutara all over again. Is there a requirement that EVERY fandom must have a ship that people go completely gaga over and pester other members of the fandom and the creators over? Yes, I know not all USUK fans are like this, but enough of them are to be annoying.
I'll never understand people who need their ship to be canon. I know RusAme, CanUkr, and the fast majority of my other favorite ships will never be canon, but I don't care; I still love them anyway.
It's like a disease in my opinion. There's an odd shipping bug that goes around biting some of us, giving those fans a crazy daze where they stop thinking logically and squee all over the place.
And I find that these really popular ships where fans do drive others crazy about it, ends up being a really big reason why people get turned off those ships. To me it's pretty ironic how the ones who love their ships so much usually end up being what ruin it for everyone else. Not that this is true for all the shippers, just that stupid vocal minority.
Where does this happen? Ive never seen any of the major ships fans persecuting people. i see them being loud and, by the force of sheer number, being the mosty active/visible sectionm of fandom, but I have never seen them raising the pitchforks to hunt a rare pairing shipper.
Did I mention anything about persecution? No, I did not. I said they pester people who ship others things, though I will contend that most of that is unintentional. It's the people who are all "Our ship is (going to) totally become canon, you guys! Anyone who doesn't see it is BLIND!" who are obnoxious.
But shipping is serious business and everything has to be canon! /sarcasm.
No, I completely agree with you. In fact, this shipping war canon/fanon I don't know what goes on my nerves. There is more or less no canon pairing. Maybe HRE/Chibitalia because they kissed.
...and especially: Does a pairing being canon make it better than a pairing that is not canon? I don't think so. My OTPs don't even exist in the Hetaliaverse and I know about 5 and 2 fanfics about the two of them.
You can ship what you want. Just don't think you're superior because of what you ship.
