I know this is not against the pairings you're wanking about, just against the retarded shippers who proclaim their ship is canon because of suggested things, like America and England cosplaying as Batman and Robin. Everyone got the hint it was a shiptease and afterwards... I don't really know. The fans you're mentionning think it's really canon and not something done just for fun. As someone who prefers platonic USUK or USUK as a dynamic duo instead of a pairing, it reaaaaally gets annoying.
And I agree with all this "ship this or GTFO". Ships are like tastes and colours, therefore you can't force someone to ship it because this is canon and the rest sucks balls, etc... Austria/Hungary is considered canon. I HATE AusHun because I really don't like their dynamics and I don't care if it's canon or not.
Oh yeah, AusHun is another pairing not mentioned in the actual wank but which get's annoying :/. They ARE regarded as the 'only 'canon' het couple in the manga'. And *yes*, we do get the impression that Hungary has a bit of a crush on Austria, and there have been *hints* that Austria likes her too. But only hints. It's never actually canonically confirmed that they are a two-way couple. So it annoys me when people refer to them *as* a canonical couple. I like the two of them as a friendship pairing, and if other people like them as a romantic pairing then that's fine, just don't go insisting that the two are *canonically* a pairing.
They *were* married in the past (Austria and Hungary were once unified historically). Though exactly what the ins and outs and 'meaning' of their marriage was is up to people's head canons.
There were hints in the Buen San Valenino arc, but once again, those are up to interpretation really. Their interaction in that arc was very sweet, though.
I have my doubts about AusHun being canon, partially due to the Character notes from 2009. Hungary's notes are far different than the one in 2007. And since Buon San Valentino is old as hell, that's no longer an evidence for me. Well, there was Hetaween but this is more a "dressing for fun" scene than a love scene. Poland did the same things to Lithuania without making the two of them canon. So yeah, AusHun's canonicity is debatable.
....It said she's still very proud of the union she had with Austria in the 2009 notes. How is that any less clear on the ship here? Besides, the character profiles from the printed volumes aren't meant to replace each other. He's just giving us more info for characters he's already done one for rather than copy-pasting. After all, he can't exactly take back something that's been printed.
Like I said below in my own little rant, you don't have to like AusHun, hate it all you want, but the ship really is canon. There's...not a whole lot of room for debate on that, I think Himaruya's intent there is pretty clear.
That does not make it canon. Being proud of an union =/= being a couple. How do you know Himaruya´s intent? And even if he wants AusHun to be in love/together, unless it happens in a strip, it means nothing or, at least, it is not canon.
Sweden calls Finland his wife, are they canon? Frances says he has always wanted to invade England, are they a couple? Those are just two examples.
Shiptease is just that. You can interpret it whatever you like, but itś just your interpretation.
No. The 2007 character profiles are deleted from his website, meaning that only the 2009 notes remain. They're no longer here, probably because they were old/inaccurate (Hungary's 2007 profile offended Hungarian fans and Himaruya didn't even gave her her boyish personality at that time, so...). He definitively replaced them.
Speaking of the infos, here's the line concerned : ・オーストリアには支配に対する反抗心もあるが、同時にあこがれのような複雑な思いを抱いている。 ・She does have defiant feelings about being under Austria's rule but at the same time she harbours complicated, yearninglike feelings towards him.
Compared to 2007, this is far more neutral, with "complicated feelings" instead of "love". That could mean a lot of things (Some believe Hungary is tsundere, in example. That could work.). And speaking of Austria, nothing had been said he loved Hungary. So no, Himaruya's intent is not clear at all.
And I tend to mention that this has nothing to do with my hate of the pairing at all. I'm not trying to bring down AusHun shippers, here. Just presenting facts.
Ah, I'm thinking of a different set of notes, then. I was thinking of the volume 1 ones that has June 8th listed as her wedding anniversary and mentions Romania. My mistake.
That's not really neutral, though. "Yearninglike"? Uhm. Plus, that was specifically describing the time she spent as a maid, so of course it was complicated. She resented that her freedom was taken from her, but found herself falling for him anyway. Of course that would leave her feeling conflicted, and thus explaining how she feels would be complicated.
As for Austria, it's canon that he doesn't express himself with words very well. So looking at his actions is pretty valid.
Forgive me, but I find that a bit hard to believe. You hate it, and you seem pretty desperate to refute it here.

Desperate ? You're the one that came by saying Himaruya made AusHun canonicity pretty clear. I explained (thus, with arguments) to you he wasn't and therefore those doubts make AusHun canonicity arguable. Hoshi started a bit of a conversation here and as it was interesting to answer, I did so.

That doesn't change what I said. When nothing has been said he loved Hungary with all his heart, I won't consider AusHun as being canon, but as a duo with a strong relationship as PolLiet. You're presenting nothing here but your personal interpretation.
I had actually first planned putting something about AusHun in my wank (along with other pairings), but it was getting long enough that I decided to get to my point. It does make a good example of something seen as a canon pairing that isn't the most popular pairing of the fans. I've seen way more fics where the two are paired with someone else than with each other
( ... )
My major problem with AusHun is that I feel the pairing is one-sided, because of Austria's aloof personnality. Even in Hetaween, where his mind was out of solar system. Only Hungary seems to care about Austria. As you said, there's a lot of shiptease with others and for me, AusHun is no exception.
