Small Landen Village in Glacia, still late Summer (Sunday Fandom Time) - Karla's world

May 26, 2013 21:26

Momoko was by no means an authority on war or medicine, but she was determined to help Karla's people as much as possible. And while she was limited in other areas, between her years as a hero, her time at Fandom High, and her time at the Police Academy, she did have quite a lot of first aid training!

So it was that a few days after her talk with Jono, Momoko was now faced with giving her first lesson to a small hand-picked group of the volunteer Landens that hadn't quite made Jono's cut. )

Jono hadn't been sure if he could make it to Momoko's first first-aid lesson, not with the sheer number of soldiers that he had, but he'd driven his soldiers extra hard tonight, and they'd taken every ounce of punishment that he could throw at them and then some. They'd earned some free time tonight to lick their wounds and rest.

So, he figured, why not? He took up a spot near the back of the group, and leaned back against a tree, listening to Momoko's three important things and nodding along as she spoke.

Once she was finished talking to the group, that's when he made his way up with a faint smile on his face.

"They seem more comfortable here with you than they did with shovels and rakes and implements of destruction in their hands, trying to take me down," he observed, looking over the group. "And being here means that they can still contribute. Having you here to show them first aid is going to work out nicely, I think."

"Well, you're a bit less intimidated by those shovels and rakes than the random wolf or wild dog that usually threatens them, you know." She was trying not to beam at the words of praise, thank you.

"I'm just glad none of them got annoyed and walked away! How was it? Did I make sense?"

"Dogs and wolves don't generally calmly reach out and just twist the shovels and rakes out of their hands," Jono pointed out, watching the group practice their first-aid on one another. "And I think you made perfect sense. You've stressed that this is war, and that they can't rely on the possibility of a miraculous rescue. That's a good start. I've been beating that into my own lot, myself."

Some of them were still convinced that they wouldn't need the rescue. Jono had to commend their confidence, but stressed that nobody here was invincible, or immortal.

"It's going to be stressed even more as I go along. Lots of them are used to small drunk fights and maybe neighborhood disputes, so that helps with the first aid part, but not the fighting."

Dinah was there now, dressed in jeans and a loose top. "Ready and willing to play demonstration dummy," she said, smiling at Momoko.

Momoko gave Dinah a V-sign. "Easy stuff today! Just going to have you fall down and cry and scream that you need help. I want to see how many people come help you, first, and then direct them how to look for injuries. You up for some hysterical talk so that you can't tell anyone what's wrong?"

"Cool, no worries. I can fake a head injury as well as something with an arm or leg, I mean, it won't be the first time that's happened." Dinah looked around, trying to find somewhere plausible to jump, roll, or trip over. Ha, wait. "I'm recruiting Swift into this, if I can get him to agree, the big softie. Hang on."

Momoko could have seen Dinah arguing with her Warlord horse for a little bit, ears forward, ears back, stomping, then a sag as Dinah persevered. Then she mounted him, bareback, and began to trot around the camp.

After about ten minutes, crying and whimpering would be heard and a limping Dinah would be seen over at the edge of camp, holding her head.

"Oooowwwwww..."

BRAVO, DINAH! Jono should be pleased with this acting!

Momoko was pleased to see that more than half of the group was scrambling to Dinah's aid. They couldn't tell if she was Blood or Landen (which was the point) and still they'd worried. Even the ones who hadn't left off what they were doing were looking concerned!

SCORE ONE FOR THE TEAM!

Momoko waved the rest of the group to join her and made her way over to where Dinah was wobbling.

"Are you okay, mi'lady?" one man was asking, hanging slightly back as a middle-aged woman reached out to steady Dinah.

Raven sat off to the side, listening to Momoko's lecture. She'd learned the basics of first aid herself some time ago, though she preferred to use her own gifts because they worked faster and there was less chance of infection or some more severe wound being missed. But she would never argue the necessity of Karla's people knowing how to take care of themselves and agreed wholeheartedly with the lessons.

Momoko moved over to Raven, smiling. "You're here! I thought you wouldn't come!"

Oh! Better tell Raven before Dinah starts her part of the class...

"And Dinah's going to be faking, so don't worry, okay?"

"Why would I not come?" Raven said, giving Momoko a puzzled look.

At the moment, her only pressing concern was trying to get her phone to download Eurovision videos, to be honest.

"And I did not think you would truly injure Dinah," she said, laughing a little and shaking her head.

"Well, hopefully she'll play a convincing part. I want to test how many of the class will actually get up and try to help. Especially if a Healer doesn't." Momoko smiled back.

"And I thought you might give it a miss because you already know some first aid. And you said it was clumsy. But I'm really glad you did. I want to make sure you know what they're going to be learning - how to make quick fixes and stuff. Not only so you can know what you'll be working with if you eventually get to heal someone, but also because you may need to do it too."
