Momoko hadn't lied when she told Jaime that she liked to spend New Years both the western and Japanese way. She'd spent the whole evening at a party, laughing and having fun and even joined loudly in as they counted down to midnight

Priestly liked it loud and boisterous -- he was wearing his new dress too, after all -- but that didn't mean he didn't have his quiet side to him. He wandered up to the roof sometime after Momoko had vanished from the party for a moment or two of fresh air.
"Hey," he said softly. "You know, it's been ages since I watched a sunrise on this coast." He weaved slightly as he turned in a circle. "Which way's east?"
Momoko proved her own slight tipsy-ness by giggling a bit too long as he spun. She leaned over and tugged at his hem. "Over here, silly. Come sit and watch this one with me! It's good luck to watch the first sunrise with friends!"
"Oh, well, I don't know anyone who needs any of that," Priestly joked. It was a terrible one, but, hey, it was hard to think of good jokes on the fly after you've been drinking. "I shoulda guessed you were a sunrise kinda girl."
Try speaking in a different language! Luckily she was a few drinks away from babbling at him in Japanese.
"It's probably the only traditional thing I do even when I'm not at home!" She pulled her legs up and wrapped her arms around her knees, grinning. "It's totally a busy holiday in Japan, but this is my favourite part, watching the first sunrise of the year. Is the party breaking up?"
"Hey, you guys." Dinah came out swaying a little on her new purple strappy heels, and managed to sit down without her skirt riding up *too* much. "Cool party, yes?"
It was entirely possible that Jaime had been watching Momoko most of the evening. Some of the time it was with a soft smile at how good she looked and how she smiled and the memories that brought. Some of the time it was a bit sadder, thinking of might-have-beens and used-to-bes.
He'd watched her at midnight with a bit of sadness. He didn't like to see her looking so lonely even though he knew that seeing her with someone else would feel like a kick in the stomach.
And he was totally watching when she wandered out.
Momoko's Jaime-senses had been tingling all night, which had totally been the biggest reason she had gone for the real champagne, so she could be forgiven for not realizing he was actually behind her as she sat there, looking over the city.
While some part of him realized that just standing there, with his attention split between watching Momoko and looking out at the horizon, was kind of stalker-y, he just didn't know what to say.
So while he tried to figure that out, he did just stand there, staring.
She looked so... something. Melancholy wasn't really a word that he associated with her in his head, but it almost seemed to fit at that moment.
Momoko was actually musing. Thinking over all the things that had happened over the year. Wondering what was going to happen next, what she wanted to happen. What she didn't want to happen.
Her face fell a bit and she dropped her gaze from the city to her skirt.
Not that Momoko was worrying about things she couldn't predict. She was more worrying about how she would react. She couldn't seem to predict herself at the moment.
Using her scrying mirror, Leda sent Momoko a New Year's greeting consisting of her, and her friends from Bordertown crying out "Happy New Year!" Two of her dragon friends, in human form were there as well. The girl gamely joined in, though the boy looked very puzzled.
Momoko glee'd when she opened the message. She thought she recognized some of the people with Leda from the earlier photos, and quickly sent a reply back:
Happy new year to you, too! All of you! Hope to see you soon, Leda! Your friend in the next year as well, Momoko ♥
The school had a huge party and then there was another huge party out on the street! It was like a mix between Halloween and uh...I think one of the kids called it Mardi Gras.
