Vote NO on Proposition 8

Oct 18, 2008 10:14

Attention all California voters! Although I doubt there are many (if any) of you here on my f-list who are considering voting for Proposition 8, I thought I'd post this just in case there is anyone "on the fence" on this issue. If passed, Proposition 8 would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry, and add to our state constitution the ( Read more... )

I'm voting no and may I say that those pro-prop 8 ads make me SO mad! I want to throw something at the tv whenever they come on. I don't even watch that much tv but it seems like I see those damn ads all the time. Ugh.

Just watched the video - nice job. Sometimes I really hate living down here - I was telling Bekki the other day I noticed while driving around town that I saw 8 pro prop 8 yard signs to every 1 anti sign. *sigh*

URGH! That would drive me crazy. Up here, I've only seen one pro-8 bumper sticker, and loads of No on 8 stickers. Same with the ratio of McCain to Obama stickers. It was worse where I used to live - San Ramon is more conservative than it is up here, I think.

Oh, and ads making me mad? I haven't seen any on television (I only ever watch things I've Tivo'd, so I skip through the ads), but there's one radio ad that makes me scream obscenities. I think I'm going to contact the radio station to let them know just how unhappy I am that they're allowing that shit to be broadcast on their station. I don't care if they're getting money to run the ads. They could make the choice to say no to those advertisers. Also, all their other advertisers are losing out now, because I turn off the station every time I hear the beginning of the Yes on 8 ad.

*GRRRRRRR*

Are they running anti-prop8 ads too? I don't know if this is still the case but at one time the FCC required a station to run ads of both sides regarding political issues if they were going to run them at all. The station that I see running the pro ad the most also does run the anti- ad but they don't seem to be running the anti-ad nearly as often. (OF course it could be that I don't watch when they do - i usually have that station on in the background while I'm doing other stuff as they run local news.)

San Diego's kind of a weird place - the lifestyle is somewhat liberal, I think (Well, if you compare to other places that aren't northern Cali, that is) but people are politically conservative. Not everyone of course but there is a republican majority. I don't think it's as strong here as in OC but it's definitely here. I think the strong military presence has something to do with it. Just add it to the list of reasons I have mixed feelings about living here ... *sigh*

I can't wait to vote no against Prop 8. Horray for the man who changed the wording of this legislation so it fit what this is really about. I am sure that my mom's church has a campaign for Yes on Prop 8. They were supporting a similar bill back in 2000, I think.

Urgh. Hopefully your mom has more sense than to vote for it. (Although I won't hold it against you if she doesn't. I don't think my own mom is even registered to vote, and even though I've urged her to register, I'm sort of glad that she hasn't. She'd probably vote for McCain. Last time I spoke with her about politics, she was convinced that Bush was doing a really great job as president). *sigh*

My mom won't be voting for Prop 8 at all. In fact, she is quite the Obama fan! She is coming out of her political closet, as it were. She is also pro-life. :)

Yeah, I scream obscenities at my radio when I hear the ad on my rock music station, and it makes me especially mad to know that the funding for those ads probably came from bigots who don't even LIVE in California. I really really really want this bullshit proposition to go down in flames.

What gets me is the amount of misinformation that is being used to try to trick people into supporting these anti-gay-marriage proposals.

I was talking to my father the other day, and was surprised when he said "I wouldn't have any problem with gay marriage being legal, but it would mean the end of men's and women's restrooms, and I just can't agree with that."

First off, I was surprised that he didn't have problems with gay marriage (he's always been pretty homophobic, racist and misogynistic), but I was even more taken aback by his belief that gay marriage would lead to uni-sex restrooms.

He was convinced that it was true, because he'd seen someone talking about it on television.

Uni-sex restrooms? WTF? I hadn't heard that one before. And yeah, it is so sad that people believe this stuff! *whimpers*

(Love your icon, btw). :)
