Since sleep seems to insist on eluding me, I suppose I may as well post this. Fair warning, this is going to cover multiple issues, and probably ramble horribly in the process. I haven't been sleeping as well as I might since I got here

I'm a mage - that is, I study and use magic. I specialize in anima magic - the magic of the elements, that allows me to conjure fire, lightning, ice, or wind. I can also, to a limited extent, use magic that can heal wounds. Magic is generally defined as a facility that allows manipulation of forces that can't necessarily be harnessed by those not capable of using it or defy physical laws as they are currently known, though there may be forms of technology in some worlds that mimic what my world would call magic

It's called anima magic. Mostly elemental spells - fire, lightning, ice, wind. I need certain magic tomes to cast it, though, and I've only got a couple of them with me, all fire or lightning. I can do a few healing spells as well, but I need certain staffs to cast them. I've got a couple of those, too. I'm not as good with them as Serra, though.

Some part of the power needed to cast the spell actually resides in the tools. It's... difficult to explain, but it's how all magic in my world actually works.

That's not necessary - I can find the phone book and look you up. Or you could, for that matter. Either way, I'd avoid going outside - I don't think the monsters can get into the houses. Gladiolus... lovely. Far enough away to be a problem.
