Day 70 | Blog | Early Morning

Jun 25, 2011 14:41

Since sleep seems to insist on eluding me, I suppose I may as well post this. Fair warning, this is going to cover multiple issues, and probably ramble horribly in the process. I haven't been sleeping as well as I might since I got here.

First, I need to apologize for repeatedly and at great length calling the sacrifice of day before yesterday meaningless. Regardless of my opinion of the action, the intent behind it was worthy enough that casting aspersions is more demeaning to the man's memory than it is helpful to any point I'd be trying to make.

Secondly, I was discussing this with someone shortly before the sacrifice, but making some sort of arrangement to make sure those who can't fight are protected would probably be best. The monsters don't seem to come inside, just yet, but there's still the one who demanded the sacrifice - I doubt he's going to settle for one life, willingly given or not. Just off the top of my head - making sure every house with people in it has at least one person who's skilled at fighting would be best, possibly more. Priority would have to go to those who fight physically rather than those who rely on magic, for reasons I'll go into below, and to houses where the housekeepers or whatever they're called have already been taken care of. I'm inclined to think no one should be staying in a house alone; possibly we want to avoid having only two people in a house as well. This may require having more people in a house than beds, but it's better than leaving someone vulnerable.

Finally, this part's addressed to any other magic-users - has anyone else noticed magic being oddly draining? More so than it might be in one's own world, I mean. I had trouble standing straight for a moment after casting a relatively simple spell, something I've been using for years without trouble. (On a related note, if anyone's attacked by a thing like a giant spider with too many fangs, they burn very well.)

... I think that's everything. I should probably just shut up and post this now. And then possibly try to actually sleep. How much it will actually work is anyone's guess.
