ooc: Forwarded to their arrival at the cabin?

[Derek finished unloading the suitcases into the cabin, setting them all in the bedroom before coming back out to give the place a once over. It was small and quaint, nice and homey, just enough for the two of them for their week long getaway. They had both been so busy lately, this would do the pair of them some good to get away from work and everything else for a little bit.

He turned to Cameron.] Is it everything you dreamed of and more?

[ Cameron's looked the place over as well, and now turns to Derek, a grin on her face. She's been looking forward to their little vacation so much, and now they're finally here- she already feels more relaxed. ]

Well, it has a fireplace and you, so I'm going to go with yeah, it is.

[That comment gets a grin from Derek and he closes the distance between them, cups her cheek with one palm and leans down to press a soft kiss to her lips. He's really been looking forward to this too. With Reid gone and everything that happened at home just before he was brought here weighing him down... he kind of needed this respite, and the reassurance that Cameron was his.]

I'll light the fireplace, yeah? Sooner we warm this place up the sooner you take that coat off.

[ Hmmm, kissing. Cameron leans into the kiss a little, smiling. ]

You could do that, but then you'd have to let go of me. [ And her smile turns into a cheeky grin. ] And I will won't let you take any nude pictures of me.

[ But yes. Lighting the fireplace sounds like a good idea, actually. Still, she doesn't really want to move away from Derek. She puts her hand over his, the one on her cheek, turning her cheek into his palm. ]

It's only for a couple days.

[ Cameron doesn't know what woke her, or what the time is, but Derek is there, next to her, and she doesn't have to get up. Neither of them has to get up. They have all the time in the world, so she snuggles closer instead of blinking the sleepy haze away and getting up, burying her nose against Derek's neck. ]

[It's weird, Derek can be a pretty heavy sleeper in certain places and a light sleeper in others. This is one of the places he's a light sleeper, probably because it's unfamiliar. He was in the place between sleep and waking up when he feels the bed shift beside him and a touch at his neck. His arm that had been haphazardly draped to the side beneath the pillows curls up around soft, slim shoulders and he hums a rumbling waking up sound, the tone much much deeper than usual since he'd been asleep.]

Morning. [ Cameron shifts closer, muttering the words against Derek's neck, her eyes still closed and just enjoying the warmth of him next to her, the weight of his arm-- she smiles against his skin. ]

[As his mind works its way into consciousness and he feels her shift against him, her warmth against his side and her lips against his neck, the corners of his lips twitch into an almost smile as his arm tightens around her shoulders and pull her closer against him. This is how he'd always like to wake up, with her presence there next to him. It's perfect.]

Mornin', pretty girl.

[ Cameron's curled up on an armchair by the fireplace, a glass of wine in one hand, her feet under her body and the high heels she was wearing even inside the cabin by the chair.

She'd been looking at the fire for a while, rather lost in thought, but after a deep breath, she decides to just-- put it out there. ]

I'm thinking of leaving the police force.

[Derek was sitting on the floor with his back against the armchair by her knees. He has one of her feet in his hands and is gently massaging it. Her comment surprises him if only because he really hadn't seen it coming.]

Really? Why?

[ She runs a hand through her hair, sighing softly - she isn't even sure whether the sigh is because of the topic, the police force, or if it's because the massage? Feels fantastic. ]

It's just-- I'm not really cut out for the job. I'm a lawyer, not a police officer. And yeah, I knew that going in, but it was never meant to go on for this long. I was a temporary solution. I want to try people, not put them in prison without a trial in a place that has no legal system to speak of.

[ And then, very quietly and with a calm that belies the anger she feels: ] People complain that the City's a police state, and the thing is, they're right. The police force is legislator, judicative and executive all in one. There's no division of power. And I figured, for the longest time, that it didn't matter so much, because someone had to do it and I was the best person for the job, but lately ( ... )

[He gets it. She was never a cop like a lot of people in the City were and it's hard to tell a cop what to do when you never went through the Academy in the first place, when you've never been out on the streets working to keep order, when you've never had to chase, cuff and bring them in, when you've never had to shoot a perp trying to escape or in a life or death situation. Also, that part of law and order is completely different than the courtroom side of law and order. So he gets it.]

It's understandable. I mean you've done good while you've been in the position. But I get that it's stressful and not your thing.

[His thumb smooths up the arch of her foot.] You'd be doing better sticking to what you know though, you're right. I mean working on some kind of judicial system here could really help the force out.

[ Cameron eyes the small kitchen in the cabin with something akin to mistrust. ]

Don't tell me I didn't warn you. [ She's no good at cooking. She never has been. And she'll hit Derek with a wooden spoon if he makes fun of her lack of cooking abilities, too. ]

bloodcakedarmor November 30 2011, 00:37:14 UTC
[Alright, so something does smell funny in the kitchen. But instead of going right to the teasing her, he puts his arms around her from behind and leans down over her shoulder to scope out the situation first. Better to make sure there are no fires before teasing her about starting a fire.]

I ever tell you about the time I burned a turkey... on Thanksgiving?

Reply

heelsandlaw November 30 2011, 00:43:10 UTC
No, you haven't. Spill, mister. [ Cameron leans into the embrace, settling comfortably against him, if only for a moment, before she's leaning forward again and gesturing at the pan which has-- rather dark pieces of what might once have been egg in it. ]

I'd like to mention that I warned you.

bloodcakedarmor November 30 2011, 16:29:46 UTC
You did warn me.

[He's trying really hard not to laugh as she leans back into him and he stares into that pan over her shoulder. It's kind of hard to discern what the burned substance in the pan was or should have become, but it is definitely burned to a crisp. How you burn eggs, he isn't sure, but she did it. And really, he's trying not to laugh, so he keeps talking.Well, my mom had to work on the morning of Thanksgiving and my oldest sister was traveling to get to Chicago by lunch time so that left me and Desi in charge of the turkey. I can cook but cooking a turkey was... different. Anyway apparently we forgot to push the start button on the timer. So we're sitting there playing cards waiting when my mom comes in and says something's burning. We look over at the oven and there's just a little smoke coming out of it. And the timer on the microwave has the number of hours we punched in on it but we never pushed start. So we ended up having barbecue that year... with stuffing and corn and rolls and cranberry sauce and all ( ... )
