Behind the lj-cut is an argument I had with a lefty acquaintance regarding the recent terrorist bombing in Tel Aviv which killed nine people and wounded over 50 at a food stand. Among the ridiculous arguments he makes are ( Read more... )

I did not condone terrorism. But I think one needs to understand it, and even expect it given certain conditions. Terrorism should be an expected result of the conditions that Israel has created. My solution is for Israel to stop doing that. Sounds like a sound strategy to me.

I also maintain that Israel does not in fact have a right to exist. As a matter of fact, I don't even think the United States has a right to exist. Nor does any other state. Why should Israel be given special rights not afforded to anyone else?

Or we could grant states the right to exist. For example, let's grant that right to the Chinese state. Since China has a right to exist, and the protesters at Tianamen square were infringing on the right of the state to exist. Thus the Chinese communists have the right to defend the right of their state to exist, by killing the people who threaten that so called "right". The consequences of granting such a right are outrageous, and they must not be allowed to gain precedent.

I'd cite examples but I'd have to copy/paste your entire ludicrous argument.

oh yeah, I also contend that all people, including the mentally handicapped, are capable of making choices. Even if they are persuaded by lies to do fucked up things, they still choose to flick the switch and detonate the bomb. They still choose to die in the process of killing.

What makes a person choose to die?

So you're justifying the use of mentally handicapped children being manipulated by terrorists into killing themselves? Wow...

Where did I use the word "justified"?

All I'm claiming is that a person chose to kill themselves and others. Do you deny that fact? What here leads you to believe I'm justifying anything at all?

dude, if you get too emotional about these things, you'll miss every point I make by thinking I'm saying things that I'm not.
