Surviving the Holiday Season (open)

For the most part, sales would be down for the winter months. Ski and snowboard sales or rentals would be virtually nonexistent due to the fact that there were no mountains to use them on, just a few subtle hills or snowdrift mounds. Even so, the outdoor sporting goods store had new ice skates, hockey gear and sleds in stock in preparation for ( Read more... )

Scheduling (tag Tim and Damian) prince_wayne November 23 2010, 23:14:47 UTC
Since attending school for Damian was more of a social assignment then an intellectual one, Bruce recognized that the youngest member of the family needed more of a daily challenge. At first, this came in the form of working out with Bruce or building a gadget together, just the two of them. Even so, the boy had too much free time and he needed to be given further tasks and challenges to keep him busy ( ... )

Damian threw his school bag behind the counter as he walked into the store, frowning.

"I hate school. May I quit?"

"Quit?" Bruce repeated in such a way that indicated his surprise that such a word was in his vocabulary.

"And leave Max alone." With Chris. Bruce reminded him.

Damian wrinkled his nose as he pulled his jacket off.

"It's boring, and the teachers are largely inept. It's all I can do not to correct them every five minutes."

Damian was carrying a small box out of the store room when he saw that Max had arrived through a crack in the open door. Pausing for a moment, he set the box down, trading it for a much larger, heavier looking box which he carried out into the main part of the store without visible effort.

"Max," he nodded to her as he set the box on the counter.

Damian waved the ridiculous notion off, "Of course not. Do you need a hat?"

Lyra was still wearing the heavy parka she'd come here in, though it was much too warm for the much milder winters here in the village. She needed something else, something lighter. Pan had spotted the store before, and so they'd come to look around. He was currently a mouse, curled inside her collar, half-asleep as she browsed.

Damian was sketching something behind the counter, his brow furrowed in concentration.

"No rodents", he said flatly, without looking up.

Lyra really didn't feel like bothering him to explain, so Pan - both too keep himself under as tight of wraps as her face, and to comply - changed himself into a little brown moth.

It took a lot to make Damian Wayne show surprise, and a mouse that transformed into a moth came close, but not quite.

"What is that thing?"

Instead of going straight back to the hotel, Lynn decided to stop by The Outer Limits to have a look at the winter apparel, figuring that Bruce, with his discerning eye, would stock up with only the best winter gear. While she had already gotten Matilda a winter coat, she decided to get the little girl some boots and one of those puffy down coats in case a snow storm of the same magnitudes as last winter's decided to strike the village again.

Making her way over to where the children apparel were located, she began to look through the available merchandise, taking into account things such as warmth, design and the color Matilda would favor.

Damian watched Lynn for a moment before walking over. Of all the women in the village, Lynn, who was a surgeon and had made Damian decent food that reminded him of home on more than one occasion, annoyed the boy the least.

"If that isn't a present for someone," Damian said, almost pleasantly, watching Lynn examine a girl's jacket. "I can tell you right now the arms will be too short."

She gave a boy a warm smile. "I was thinking about giving it to the little girl who's living with me. It's her first Christmas here, and she's without her family. Are you doing anything special for Christmas, Damian?"

It was never too early to start doing the Christmas shopping, although Dick and Damian especially would stump her, at least temporarily. After all, what would one give to the two boys who seemed to have everything? At any rate, she believed that Damian would end up liking the present she had planned for him. "I hope school hasn't been boring you too much," she said, subtly teasing the boy. She knew boredom when she saw it. "Unfortunately, we can't really deviate too much from the set curriculum, as much as I would like to...especially when under new management."

"Yes," Damian rolled his eyes at the thought of the new Principal. "His Lordship is a pompous windbag who needs to be kicked down a flight of stairs."

John had come into the village from summer, he had no winter coat, he could use one, and some winter boots -- John was particular about his foot gear, nearly obsessive one might say.

He came into the store and was looking at coats, boots, and heavy winter socks.

Bruce had been helping a (npc) young man get fitted for a pair of speed skates when the other man came into the store and began to browse the winter wear. He did not greet him straight away, but continued to help the (npc) young man until he was matched with a good pair of skates. Once the sale was finalized, Bruce approached the other man. "Finding everything alright?" He asked the well-built man who looked just under six feet and was either a cop or in some bizarro world, a high-end mortician; in either case, someone who had seen a fair amount of dead bodies in their lifetime.

"Hi," John said, he thought the guy running the store looked too rich to have a day job -- the kind of person who 'had people' to do such things, but what did he know?

"I'm looking for warm and sturdy," John said, and since most of the boots seemed designed for one particular thing, "and sort of all-purpose." John could never tell what he was going to get into.

Bruce gave a slight nod, getting a sense of what the man was looking for, "Most of the hiking boots here can double as winter boots- however these" he said, indicating to a line of sample footwear, grabbing one off the shelf, "are designed for more ... adventurous trekkers in mind. These have thermal insulation, a waterproof membrane, which is also anti-microbial" a concern alleviated for those who spent more time in the same pair of boots then out of them, in a verity of wet, dry, cold or humid environments. "And the outsole is made of duel climate rubber, which hardens in cold weather, to better bit into snow or ice for better traction."
