Surviving the Holiday Season (open)

For the most part, sales would be down for the winter months. Ski and snowboard sales or rentals would be virtually nonexistent due to the fact that there were no mountains to use them on, just a few subtle hills or snowdrift mounds. Even so, the outdoor sporting goods store had new ice skates, hockey gear and sleds in stock in preparation for ( Read more... )

Scheduling (tag Tim and Damian) prince_wayne November 23 2010, 23:14:47 UTC
Since attending school for Damian was more of a social assignment then an intellectual one, Bruce recognized that the youngest member of the family needed more of a daily challenge. At first, this came in the form of working out with Bruce or building a gadget together, just the two of them. Even so, the boy had too much free time and he needed to be given further tasks and challenges to keep him busy ( ... )

Damian threw his school bag behind the counter as he walked into the store, frowning.

"I hate school. May I quit?"

"Quit?" Bruce repeated in such a way that indicated his surprise that such a word was in his vocabulary.

"And leave Max alone." With Chris. Bruce reminded him.

Damian wrinkled his nose as he pulled his jacket off.

"It's boring, and the teachers are largely inept. It's all I can do not to correct them every five minutes."

Tim came in after a morning that had gone something like Conner, dojo, shower, Conner, shower, lunch and now the store. He slid around a family trying to get an unhappy eight year old to try on puffy winter jackets and stepped up to Bruce at the counter, leaning forward and giving his adoptive father his usual small smile of greeting.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Tim" Bruce said in his usual short hand greeting which was meant to encompass, hello, how are you, you're looking well, now lets get to work.

"I have a project I would like you to consider."

"Sure." Tim folded his arms on the counter and started looking around for some indication of what this project might be. "Something with the store?"

"Yes."

Bruce met his eyes as he explained, "With Greg gone, the store needs a new instructor for classes and workshops, as well as someone supervising daily sales and inventory."

He knew it wasn't the most appealing of jobs, even with instructing rock climbing lessons and such, but attempted to keep it diplomatic, "Until you decide upon a project of your own choosing, at the Lemon Drop Lab" as it had been over a month ago "or- whatever it is you want to do Tim" Bruce added patiently, "I would appreciate the help here."

"Of course" He added as a bonus "you'll have access to the lab and computer in the basement, should you become inspired."

Tim brightened and turned to look around the store. "Yeah, I can do that. I mean...I know I haven't exactly been my normal..." He sighed and glanced back at Bruce before dragging a hand through his hair. "Guess I got kind of depressed...made it hard to want to do anything." And now that he was feeling better, working at the store did appeal. "I'd like to do that. I was...also thinking there were a couple classes at the university that looked interesting, if this is going to be the winter of me getting my act together."

"Anything you want." Bruce said, genuinely pleased to hear that Tim would do the work but also pursue taking a few classes at the university. Alright, he was more then pleased. He was proud. Even if the cure to Tim's depression had been Conner Kent. Bruce could relate. Even if he could never admit it.

"Thanks, Bruce." Tim gave him another small smile, for a lot of things, but mostly for knowing him well enough to offer. "I appreciate it."
