Well, Linden--Linden feels amazing. He's been talking to a lot of people, and doing a lot of listening, and a lot of thinking, and--things have changed, at least a little. He's discovered a hope within himself that he hasn't felt in a long time. Something has cleared and left him, and for the last few days he's slept well all night long

Elaine slips in, unobtrusive as ever, and pauses a moment to watch him from the doorway.

Being himself, he can't help but notice, but he continues for a little while, and then turns and smiles at her. "Good afternoon."

She smiles back, one hand on the cupboard door. It's hard not to. "Afternoon, sir."

He gestures at the stir-fry while poking it with a wooden spoon. "Would you care to share my luncheon with me?"

Spade knocks on the doorway. "Mind if I steal a word?"

Linden catches a slight smile, drawing it back into a pleasant but serious look. "Yes, sir?"

"Don't want to interrupt the party." He stepped into the kitchen, though not very far. "Just wanted to let you know I'm still working on Miss Mye. She's quite slippery. But I've just gotten a new lead." He shook his head. "Sorry it's taking so long. I feel like I'm working with a hand behind my back around here."

"Not at all." He pauses thoughtfully. "That sounds exactly like her. Thank you very much for your dedication to the project."

[alcuin_delaunay]

Alcuin's always drawn to people in a kitchen, and slips through the door quietly, not wanting to disturb, but nonetheless curious and friendly. "What are you making?"

Linden turns his smile, calming and gentle, upon Alcuin. "I'm not entirely sure, but it smells good."

"Do you want any help?" Alcuin smiled shyly in return, hesitating still near the doorway.

"There's little left to do, but I don't mind company. Please come in."
