I even DREAMED about the Olympics.

Do you think the baby wants to watch the Olympics....?

Because I can't stop. Oh no. It's 24/7 swimming inside my head. I watched with catherinejulian on Saturday afternoon (and was able to dissect the finer points of backstroke technique. Apparently, I did learn something on swim team all those years ago.), OF COURSE I watched the finals with Michael Phelps and ( Read more... )

[ it is heinously unaustralian of me, given that mine is a nation obsessed with sports, but i don't think i could care less about the olympics if i tried. my mother, however, refuses to relinquish the remote. i don't get the stephanie rice thing. the media here are besotted, having crowned her the new glamour girl of australian swimming, but ... i don't know ... meh. you can disown me now! *g* ]

The u-SOFA is pretty sports obsessed, but it tends to be those silly sports that only we play: baseball, American Football, etc. We're just as attached to football as we are to not using the metric system. We're a weird bunch.

My obsession with Olympic swimming mostly comes from my having swam (swum? swimmed?) competitively all through junior high and high school. It's really awesome to watch THE BEST swimmers, even though I myself will settle for merely being "good."

I will only disown you if you tell me that you don't like Ian Thorpe. I know that I'm an American, and I'm supposed to think that Michael Phelps will win 8 gold medals by walking across the water, but I always, ALWAYS rooted for the Thorpedo and was SO GLAD when he upset Phelps in '04.

Right. The obsession. Yes. I need therapy.

[ i guess i'm going to be disowned then. haha. no, i mean, ian thorpe was a seriously amazing athlete, but in his post-swimming career as a television presenter he fails miserably. honestly, the man has the charisma of a sponge, so just cling to your vision of thorpe the stellar athlete because thorpe the tv presenter is so boring and lacking in personality that it might kill you watch him :) ]

Oh geez. I have no interest in watching him on TV, unless he is on TV in the capacity of swimming really fast. Stick to what you're good at, man!

I'm going to have to nap so I can watch swimming from 1030-1230. What do you mean that 1030 is my bedtime? And I have to work tomorrow? WHO CARES, IT'S KATIEHOFF.
