[ALSO BACKDATED BECAUSE ROS AND I WORK AS A FLIST-SPAMMING TEAM?: Perry has just woken up in the infirmary after being knocked out by Arthur. It's probably been an hour or two since Arthur's post. He's not happy about being knocked out or being in the infirmary. He doesn't like doctors. :c As Arthur isn't in the immediate vicinity at the moment for ( Read more... )

my paradoxical warden, perry hates the infirmary, perry solves problems with his fists, acting like a dawsey, this whole rehab thing is retarded

WELL, WHAT THE HEY: AWKWARD SPAM stopthat_destro September 23 2011, 00:16:15 UTC
[Well, since Rex works in the infirmary, it's bound to happen. He's on gruntwork duty at the moment, which mostly means cleaning things and making sure all the infirm get their meals. So, he's wordlessly handing people their meals, mind on other things, like his sister's return, the weapons he's planning on building for Wanda... Normal stuff.

So, he's sort of half-zoned out by the time he gets to Perry's bed. He passes a tray over to him with all the love and care of a school cafeteria worker. Then, he does a double take when he realizes who the bed's occupant is. What the hell? Somebody beat him up?

Well, okay. Part of him's pretty happy to see that. The other part... not so much. It's weird. And awkward. And he doesn't like it.]

Tell me about it. He's my warden. [Perry's in the same sort of zone, just talking to try and keep his mind off the spiralling black hole that is the feelings this conversation has brought up. Unfortunately it's kind of hard to avoid. Perry resolutely does not look at Rex when he speaks again, voice almost a whisper. It's just a directionless thought as Perry tries to reconcile his different beliefs and not just snap.] I always do what I have to do.

I do too. [Snort.] Or I did. [He's not sure how much fight he has left in him these days. Rex shrugs, also not looking at the other inmate.] But I suppose that's why we're here.

[Through his teeth:] But I'm not wrong.

[He's talking about being on the Barge, not saying that Rex was wrong.]

Neither was I. [Granted, stuff he did on the Barge was wrong, but... well, nobody's managed to convince him that he did anything unnecessary back home.] Did your warden ever tell you why you're here? Specifically?

Not specifically. [Pause. He scrunches the bed's blanket with his big hands as he talks, not looking at the other inmate.] But I know what he thinks I did wrong, the stuff that I believe that he doesn't like. I know that. Am I supposed to just give up everything that makes me-- [A Dawsey. He just sounds angry now.] How am I supposed to get out of here without letting them turn me into someone else?

[There's a little scowl now.] You can't. I've never known anyone to graduate without becoming a completely different person. [He clicks his tongue and mutters:] Except for Loki.

[BUT LOKI TOTALLY DIDN'T DESERVE TO GRADUATE, OKAY.]

[Perry waves a dismissive hand at Loki's name. Come on, he was the god of mischief. His voice is an angry hiss.] Then how the fuck are we ever going to get out of here?

[Rex shrugs, picking at a string on his scrubs, just to keep his hands somewhat occupied.]

I still think destroying the Barge while it's docked is as close to a permanent solution as we can get. If not that... No amount of reforms or concessions from the wardens will change the function of this place. We linger here until we're abandoned, or we become somebody else.

I'd say we should figure out where the hell the Admiral actually hangs out and fix the problem at its source, but-- [Perry shrugs as well, slumping back in the bed and glancing at Rex. Finding the Admiral is always going to be the problem. He seriously doubts it's actually possible. There's silence for a little while.]

Can you do it?

[Rex thinks on it, leaning forward a little, his elbows on his knees.] With a very special warhead I developed back home, yes. [He moves his hands to demonstrate the size.] About the size of a football. It targets and devours metal; it could eat away at the Barge, leave the people in tact...

[Pause, then he sighs.]

The only problem is it would require a particle accelerator. Those aren't exactly easy to come by.

[Perry smiles a small, hard smile. Right now, the idea of spending however-the-fuck-long it took Arthur and this place to wear him down trapped here, until he either disappeared or changed completely was not exactly a rosy vision of the future. He didn't have a whole lot of love for his warden, either. It's not much, but it's a possibility.

The technicalities are Rex's speciality, though. Perry's not dumb but he's no scientist. He frowns.] A particle accelerator... I'm guessing you wouldn't find one on the Barge, huh?

[Rex shakes his head.] Even if we had the space for it-- which we wouldn't, outside of the CES-- the construction would be immense. And it's outside of my area of expertise, anyway. [Hence why Ana had to go and marry the Baron deCobray in the first place. Aside from the fact that Rex might have chosen him as a target because of his name...]

So we'd need to find one somewhere in a port. [Perry sighs, rubbing his eyes. Okay, so it was a useless plan.] Or hope that a warden just happened to have one in their room and wasn't telling anyone about it. [...] And then find someone to work it.

[He doesn't say anything for a moment, then:] I just don't want to stay here and do nothing.

I could learn how to operate one, but there's just no way to have one aboard the Barge. [He frowns.] It would require a string of absurd coincidences to ever happen, so there's no point in dwelling on it.

[He shakes his head.] I guess there's always... the strike thing.

[Perry gives Rex a look, then sighs.] I still think the strike thing's kinda weak, man. [But hey, this is mostly just hypothetical, a way of distracting himself.] Who do you think would be interested?
