I was completely unaware that my last post was the first hated_character post of 2009.
Here's to a year free of bashing!

Also, my list of favorite characters that get the short end of the fandom stick. Keep in mind I haven't been in fandom for five years mostly because I was scared off from bashers and mean people in general.

You should Namine to the list. Poor girl gets a lot of hate.

Unfortunately, I don't really like Naminé much... One of my reasons for disliking Kairi and Naminé was that I found it impossible to have a heart entirely free of darkness, when the game itself says that every heart has darkness inside, no matter how pure. And Naminé didn't really interest me...she's too much like me. I guess we tend to dislike characters who have the qualities about ourselves that we like the least. I'd like to think I fit right in the KH fandom with me being a Sora/Riku and AkuRoku fan, but I really can't stand all the female character bashing.

Relena makes me want to buy a GW boxset.

Oh, I know what you mean. I don't like Kairi at all but the bashing gets ridiculous. I like Namine because I think she had a lot of potential and it sucked how they made them the same being :/

Well that's the game plot's fault though, not Kairi's. If that was reasonable grounds for disliking a character, then shouldn't Jasmine, Belle, Alice, etc. also get hate since they're also Princesses of Heart?

I figured that one out from the getgo. I mean, there was already a blond kid who was obviously some sort of Sora counterpart running around in the KH2 promotionals, why wouldn't the same hold true for Namine? ^_^

NITPICK: I really don't think Demyx oughta be on the list. From what I've seen, his fanbase is larger than Sora, Kairi, or Riku's; and coming from a guy who gets two scenes and one fight, I think he might be overLOVED if anything. -_-

Agreed 100% on the Yu-gi-oh characters (especially poor Tea who did absolutely nothing to deserve hatred), the Final Fantasy characters (though where's Yuffie?), the Kingdom Hearts characters (though Disney disliking makes me kinda sad), the pokemon and digimon characters, the Death Note character (poor Misa) and of course, Relena. If you want to escape fandom, I think you'll fit in here quite well.

I was always neutral to Téa until I've read Téa/Anzu-bashing fanfics and then saw Téa/Anzu-bashing on Gaia Online and fanfiction.net. And I still think after seven years it's going strong--there's even Téa/Anzu-bashing on adultfanfiction.net! She's rarely even in doujinshi or at least there are hardly any (non-hentai) doujinshis centered around her. Sometimes, she's bashed or horribly mischaracterized (...is that even a word?). I have this one doujinshi where she is always angry because Yuugi likes Jounouchi. She even attacks Yuugi in one scene.

Joey's not hated as much as Téa is (though his dub version is probably more bashed), but he has arguably the worst characterization in the fandom. He's such an uke that he puts Harlequin romance heroines to shame. That's one of the biggest things that turned me off from Puppyshipping fics. That, and they'd probably file the divorce papers as soon as they'd cut the cake. And even if he did like Kaiba in that way, from the way he was drooling at Mai in the anime and when he flipped skirts and ( ... )

Definitely agree on Mai, Joey, and Yugi.

The FF7 girls, not so much. But then I was spoiled by FF6. At the risk of sounding like an old-school elitist, you should check those out as well as at least of few of the earlier entries. It's a shame the pre-FF7 half gets the shaft by a lot of people.
