Addendum to previous post.
I was completely unaware that my last post was the first hated_character post of 2009.
Here's to a year free of bashing!
Also, my list of favorite characters that get the short end of the fandom stick. Keep in mind I haven't been in fandom for five years mostly because I was scared off from bashers and mean people in general.
Yu-Gi-Oh!
-Téa Gardner/Mazaki Anzu (my cosplay this year)
-Mai Valentine/Kujaku Mai (I can't believe I used to hate her)
-Tristan Taylor/Honda Hiroto
-Joey Wheeler/Jounouchi Katsuya (okay, he's not really hated, but he's just horribly characterized in fanworks)
-Yugi Mutou (same with Joey, but his situation seems to be a little worse)
Final Fantasy VII
-Tifa Lockheart
-Aeris Gainsborough
Final Fantasy VIII
-Rinoa Heartilly (ALWAYS a favorite of mine)
-Selphie Tilmitt
-Zell Dincht
-Ellone Loire (I don't really know if she's hated, but I imagine she gets the 'Mary Sue' treatment)
Final Fantasy X*
-Tidus
-Yuna
-Wakka
-Rikku
Final Fantasy XII*
-Vaan

Kingdom Hearts (1, CoM, and 2)
-Kairi (I can't believe I used to hate her, either.)
-Roxas (yes, he's hated, mostly among people who like to use the term 'fag' too much)
-Demyx
-Larxene (I think she's hated. I wouldn't be surprised if she were.)
-Axel (His KH2 personality is actually hated more than his CoM personality. Could it be his catchphrase?)
-DiZ
--And truth be told, I dislike Disney. But I love how the characters' interactions help with the story, especially Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
