Pochama's getting a lot now for the writers sort of forcing it as a mascot.
Actually, it barely showed up in the latest episodes, but in some episodes, it tends to act like Pikachu (... as much as a very prideful penguin will act like Pikachu xD) and spends a lot of time outside of its monsterball and is used a lot by her, like Satoshi does with Pikachu.
Of course, Pikachu is no longer bashed for this as MUCH, but now let's turn the hate onto Pochama for doing roughly the same thing, but on a smaller scale. Eh?
Same thing with Hikari herself. The writers seem to really like her and treat her as much a hero for DP as they do with Satoshi, which bugs some fans and so instead of blaming the writers and producers, they blame... Hikari?

That's the same thing that happened to Yuuko Yagami, Taichi's mom, when she once was *really* harsh to Taichi for taking his sister out when she was sick. Granted, both mothers' reactions *may* have been a bit over the top (and that's saying a lot), but all of the two ladies's other actions make clear that Yuuko and Ayako care for their children and would NEVER abuse them.

Now, see, that?
I don't have a problem with.
These are just very strict mothers. Saying they were being a bit harsh is fine, but going about saying they hate their children when all other instances point to the very opposite?
It's that kind of ridiculousness that I have a problem with.
I'm not very familiar with Digimon, but that sounds pretty bad. Poor, poor Yuuko. ^^;

Don't get me started on Yamato and Takeru's parents either. @.@;;; In fanfiction, Yamato's dad is always shown as an abusive alcoholic and I thought, "What!? When the hell was he ever like that?"
Guess what, Digimon fandom! People who divorce aren't always bad and/or abusive people. Hell, look at the messed up state of a lotta marriages in America. @.@;;;
Kinda OT, but the way you describe Ayako and Hikari's relationship reminds me of a song by Tori Amos called "Mother", where the daughter is told to leave the nest, "put those ribbons under your helmet, be a good soldier" and gain her independence. The song's like a big thank-you letter from the daughter to her mother, for telling her to get on her feet and become strong and never give up. ("First my left foot, then my right behind the other...")
If you ask me, Ayako's only doing what's best for her daughter, to confront the unsheltered world as it is in reality, to spread her wings and fly, because she wants Hikari to shine and show her potential.
Want to know what a real abusive mother is like? Read A Child Called It by David Peltzer. The things the mother did to the author just borders beyond inhuman. D:
That really is how I got it from the very first episode Hikari was in. Ayako was trying to guide her so she would be able to face the real world, while her daughter was busy fantasizing and spinning around while imagining herself on a Contest stage. ^^;
Ayako was a Coordinator and knows what the world is like, but Hikari lacks the experience that she does, so she's just trying to help her go down the path Hikari chose, because she can't always be there for her.
I've heard of it, but I've never picked it up. I'm almost scared to. ^^;
Okay, maybe Ayako could do things better...but abusive? I haven't seen most episodes but calling her abusive is crossing the line. Nothing has ever indicated that she hates her daughter. That's just a ridiculous false claim.
Yeah, but the fandom is rife with brats that could come up with the most creative arguments for their hatred that make you wonder if we're even watching the same show.

because you know, a mom acting like a proper MOM is totally abusive and mean! I dunno what kind of spoiling kids these days get, srsly.

There's haters for just about anybody, even Pokemon themselves! o_o; And I wish that even half of their arguments made sense.
