Whenever a "who is your most hated character" topic comes up, not only do people go after the female characters first, but they go after the heroines, the sweet quiet shy ones, the main love interests, the spunky little country girls, or the strong tough Amazons ( Read more... )

bashers suck, discussion, fanbutt hypocrisy alert!

Oh hell yeah. Kairi, Aerith, Rinoa, Relena, Anzu/Tea, Terra, Kagome, Sakura, Winry...I could go on and on about how retarded the vast majority of hate posts against them are on threads like these.

I have tried to mildly defend the characters and only get crap in response. Can't expect much from those type of people though, eh?

I always ask that too. Kairi bashing is either due to A: Getting in the way of Sora/Riku (bleah!) or B: Because she's "annoying" since "she's too happy and all she does is giggle" (since when is happiness a crime...and FYI, SORA is also a very happy and cheerful person.)

Relena and Anzu are all about peace and friendship...and they get slammed for it. What is this society coming to?

I know! Kairi is an awesome character. And I've seen posts and icons where they bash Kairi's Keyblade because it's "too girly." HELLO, MARLUXIA ANYONE (I love Marluxia, don't get me wrong). So what if it's too girly? SHE IS AWESOME, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK HEADS. */so totally done rambling*

That's sad. It's like they're saying peace and friendship is bad...x_X

I often find "I have a RIGHT TO MY OPINION!!!!" is code for "I have a right to be a fucking moron!"

Yes you do, but I wouldn't mind too terribly if you kept it to yourself.

Yup. There's a "least-favorite character" thread at a Tokyo Mew Mew forum I frequent. Here are the top picks:

Ichigo Momomiya/Mew Ichigo: Always happy, too Mary Sue-ish (she's a typical shoujo heroine! The plot wouldn't turn out nearly as happysappy shoujo-y if anyone else were the leader!)
Berii Shirayuki/Mew Berii/Berry: To Sue-ish, Ichigo-clone. (If anyone even looked at A La Mode closely, they'd shut up.)
Retasu (Letuce) Midorikawa/Mew Retasu: Too shy and quiet and bookwormish (...Even if you ignore all that character development she gets in both the anime and manga, this isn't a bad thing. If you were one of only five girls who had to save the world, I'd get more than a little depressed.)
Masaya Aoyama: Too "perfect." (People forget the part explained about how he mostly only acts that way. Plus, the story is mostly from Ichigo's - his girlfriend's - point of view. Fangirls prefer Ryou [the sarcastic slave driver] or Kisshu [ the rabid stalker ( ... )

With such rampant hate of female characters among female fans, along with the fact that I tend to warm to females more than males in fiction... I have been lead to suspect myself of lesbianism several times.

I've heard so many times that "Women just hate other women. It's a fact of life." D: I don't get it! Does that just make me gay? Or crazy for liking people in spite of not being attracted to them?

I've never heard that exactly line, but yeah, I don't get the sentiment. I definitely warm more toward female characters, but I don't think it has to do with my... slightly questioning... sexuality.

What always puzzles me is when people will say "There are absolutely no good/interesting females in ..." and then name a huge fandom, or several huge fandoms, or say something like "anime." I'm not saying that makes them misogynist, I'm just always asking "Well then why do I like so many of them? Is something wrong with me?"

I always end up arguing with haters. :3

When I see my favorite characters get bashed, I usually e-mail a friend who also loves them so we can talk about how stupid the basher was and how awesome the character is.

But I'm a member of the Shinji Ikari Fan Mafia, so this is gender-inappropriate. XD

XD S'okay. I was discussing females in the post but it applies to anything.
