Whenever a "who is your most hated character" topic comes up, not only do people go after the female characters first, but they go after the heroines, the sweet quiet shy ones, the main love interests, the spunky little country girls, or the strong tough Amazons ( Read more... )

bashers suck, discussion, fanbutt hypocrisy alert!

And when you see a favorite female get bashed, do you make a point of ficcing/iconning/drawing them for the rest of the day, as a sort of rebellion? XD

No, but it's a good idea. :D *jots that down*

Seeing any character bashed, even ones I'm indifferent towards, makes me angry. I want to avoid those threads, but they are like a magnet, they always draw you in.

Juri Katou from Digimon Tamers is bashed constantly because she plays with a dog sock puppet, is sensitive, and was extremely upset and depressed over the death of her partner WHO WAS MURDERED BEFORE HER VERY TEN YEAR OLD EYES!!! She's then kidnapped by the D-Reaper and forced to relive the most horrific moments of her life (Her birth mom's death, Leomon's death, etc.) for a couple of weeks and yet many people don't give a wit and just want he to die a bloody horrible death.

I'm a fool. I continue to post coherent, polite arguments in which I point out canonical evidence in the character's favor...

...even though I'm inevitably ignored, or told I'm "looking too deeply into the character" for having the "obsessive" need to actually support what I say instead of just pulling things out of my exhaust pipe and expecting everyone to beli-eve me. 9_9

Sorry. Recent wound. I'm still licking it. ;)

I ought to do that next time. It would probably be more fun.

*urk* Quite like that. And yet slamming her with equal passion is okay? I mean, the conversation went something like this, names and fandom removed to protect the guilty:

Poster 1: Character X sucks! I don't know how anyone could like her!
Poster 2: Yeah! She's a loser!
Poster 3: She's whiny!
Poster 4: She's a wimp!
Poster 5: She's MEEN to Character Y!
Me: Woah, woah, hold up here. If she's a loser, why did she save the rest of the team in [episode]? How was she able to best a group of seasoned warriors in a free-for-all in [scene]? And given that, how's she wimpy? By the way, expressing legitimate concerns isn't whining, and in [example] and [example] the flaws she pointed out turned out to be the very weaknesses their enemies exploited. And if she's so mean to Character Y, why does he always wind up on her doorstep when he's really in trouble ( ... )

Oh, and so not to sound so complain-y, here are the frequent recipients of ill will 'round my fandoms:

Games/Anime: Pick-an-FF-girl, Virginia from Wild ARMs, Jennifer from Clock Tower, Bulma and ChiChi from DBZ

Toylines: Lady Jaye and Zarana from GI Joe, Arcee, Elita-1, and Nightbird from Transformers, and She-Ra from Masters of the Universe.

Other: Alex, Morgana, and Lisa from Wishmaster (See, Alex is physically strong, aggressive, and practical, so she sucks. Morgana is magically strong, reserved, and fanciful, so she sucks. And Lisa isn's a fighter or go-getter at all but is willing to stand up when she has to, so, you guessed it, she sucks!)

Hm...people nowadays seem to like flinging opinions around like some sort of shield. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however, that doesn't mean that that opinion is a good one. -_-; And the "It's just a fictional character" argument is a hypocritical one if they're intense bashers themselves. I usually just ignore places where there's a lot of bashing. Fights with people who wouldn't know logic if it hit them in the head are a waste of time.

"MY OPINION!!!" is flung around like a shield, and because people are so stupid about it no one respects opinions on principle anymore.

I agree, people have their opinions, but when they want you to respect their opinion, they don't even try to respect your own!

I often find myself liking children shows alot, so I'm often in the most immature fandoms. And, I can't go into a hate thread without people dissing me about it. That's why I try to avoid those sort of threads.. There really is no sense in talking to a 11 year old who uses net speak. ._.
