Whenever a "who is your most hated character" topic comes up, not only do people go after the female characters first, but they go after the heroines, the sweet quiet shy ones, the main love interests, the spunky little country girls, or the strong tough Amazons

Yes, I definitely go out of my way to defend them. I just can't avoid reading about a hated character without speaking out in their defense.

Examples are Amelia and Sylphiel from Slayers (Amelia is my favorite character), Hinata, Ino and Sakura from Naruto, (I haven't seen Hinata-bashing, but it's always possible and she's my favorite kunoichi), Kagome and especially Kikyo from Inuyasha (I cosplayed as Kikyo this year), Akane from Ranma 1/2 (I saw a whole article somewhere dedicated to why Akane needs to die, and it really pisses me off), and Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist (yes, I admit I am a Winry fangirl).

Speaking of tough, strong Amazons, Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 comes to mind, but I haven't seen any bashings of her, either.

Lately I've been seeing more male characters get bashed -- it's an unfortunate side effect of yuri fandom. :(

That goes all the way back to ye olden days of Sailor Moon fandom in the late '90s -- Tuxedo Mask was absolutely *stampeded* by the fandom (he's weak, he's useless, etc.) I made a point to feature the guy prominently in my fanfiction *and* develop his powers some more to give him a bit of respect.

Me and my aunt used to laugh at him because he reminds us of a bullfighter. XD

But we were sort of noncommital about the show on the whole. It was her boyfriend'd daughter who was the fan, we just kind of watched it because she had it on.

Actually, it was because of that one post where the person slammed Florina and Amelia and Neimi and a bunch of other female and child characters.

And when you see a favorite female get bashed, do you make a point of ficcing/iconning/drawing them for the rest of the day, as a sort of rebellion? XD
