"First make the four corners, then attach the tzitzit."

I think I'm missing something here; is there any other way to do it?

In principle you could attach the tzitzit and then make the garment four cornered by ripping the seams 51%. But that order would be wrong because you can't attach something l'shem mitzvat tzitzit onto something that doesn't require tzitzit.

I was thinking, actually, that it would be wrong for another reason, whose name I can't remember, but which comes up by succah. Isn't that convincing!

Bal tosif seems like a likely reason if it's succah. Does it come up when they're discussing why adding a 5th species is bad and wrong?

Looks like there are various sellers of linen tzitzis online...I wouldn't trust any of them without checking them out, but they're out there...or you could get the yellow hobbit to spin some...

I feel like I have a cotton set? Would that be weird? I don't know, it's been so long, but they're thin, and not wooley (I'm allergic)... I got them at West Side Judaica, and they don't feel like wool, but I don't remember what they actually are.

That wouldn't be weird. West Side Judaica, eh?

Hey! I like those flower ones! I feel like I've seen them somewhere before... ;o)

And yes, you are totally right about the armpits going first, so sad, my dingy little beged.

Ha. A MAN over on Dreamwidth doubted the accuracy of this. "Don't you wash your clothes?" he said.

Ha! That's hilarious.

And it's true: I wear them OVER something else, so it's not like my tzitzit are absorbing all of my body stuff. Over time, the stretchy white material gets less stretchy and less white. It happens. I think partially because i DO wash them frequently!

FYI: Strappy top tzitzit is great if you're very small-chested or under 25. Not really for the rest of us. Tank top - which is not strappy, but has something you can put a bra under is what the rest of us wear. Even better: sleeveless shirts, which have wide at the top.

I'm with you on the spaghetti-string tank-top thing not working so well: the "bra" they include is just pointless on my figure, neither hitting properly, nor offering any support... I'm thinking of cutting up a tank top along the lines of what you describe when I make my next stab at tzitzit (I made my own from a piece of fabric, once, and although I shaped it a bit to fit me, rather than a man, it just didn't feel feminine.)

Okay dammit I am suffering from Foreign Language. I thought what you people call "tank top" is identical to what I call a strappy top. Help me out here!

I think there are two (or possibly three) things here, all of which are various versions of camisole/tank top ( ... )

P.s. Who is the "certain JTS rabbi?" If you mean Rabbi Ruttenberg, she's actually an AJU rabbi.
