60th Birthday
I had a great time for my 60th birthday. bkdelong and Kristen came over to the house and visited for a bit before going out to dinner. Last week I went to the Met for 2 days and looked at 15 samples of lace. Took a ton of pictures of each - mostly lacis, but a couple of bobbin lace ones as well. The Teneriffe lace I had requested was not present, and although they couldn't say why it wasn't available, I suspect it was too delicate to be brought out for study. I haven't felt like writing anything of substance for a while. A couple of sentences and pictures in Facebook have been about it. Partly it has been because I have been tired in the evenings from work, so haven't had the energy to post. I have also been sorting boxes of genealogy collected by my father - so far, about 20. Genealogy
I have moved most of my father's genealogy papers and books to my house. I am sorting through his papers to get them in order. I have filled 4 bookcases with local histories, family name histories, birth & death records, etc. There must be books on every family name in Quebec here. Home for a breather. Three 4-drawer file cases are in my utility room, and my sunroom is piled with boxes of genealogy stuff. The brown cabinet was mine and the rest were my father's.

Back from Joannes with embroidery needles for my upcoming class, and a nice spring green cotton cloth for the background for my Tree of Life.

1. prepare poster board and background and pin lace tree on it for Hrim Scola

So Tree of life is done. Backing colors need to be light and vibrant. Dark colors recede and disappear.

Rugs
When my parents became ill, they were moved to the first floor of their house and all scatter-rugs were removed. Then the rugs were either given away or, in the case of the orientals, put in the attic. They've been up there for at least 2 years now, and it's a very bad place to keep wool rugs. My first Yule celebration yesterday was very nice. We gathered for an indoor celebration and feast. The 2 collies decided they loved me to bits, and tried to sit in my lap. They are only 3 years old, but still think they are puppies. When I got home my cat kept sniffing me all evening. Not sure what he was thinking ( Read more... )
