There's just something so very old school movie scifi about human vs. aliens and how the show embraces.
Seriously! There have been some reviews. Not negative but saying how formulaic it is. And I'm like? This show is not complicated. Just because it's not complicated (ala Lost, Flashforward) doesn't mean it doesn't have "it."
And it was like all of my favourite discarded characters/actor from other shows found a home where they get to play around on space ships all day.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! This! Someone in casting was doing their job. They got some Lost, some Smallville, some SG1, some Firefly in this shit. It's like they WANT to give sci-fi fans boners, lol.
I loved the episode. For me the pacing was off - not fast, not slow - just, it could've used more time. But after a second viewing all that went away. And having loved the original, I keep wondering how they're going to use canon from there. For instance. I really want them to incorporate Conversion. Especially how updated they can make it - it can be creepy as fuck.

Exactly! Not that I don't love Lost or Flash Forward and their craziness, but there's something wonderful in the simplicity of: aliens. And I'm ALL for it. Aliens!!!

LOL. I'm completely convinced of this now. The casting director clearly knew their scific shows! *G* All we need is someone from BSG to pop in.
The pacing grew on me as the episode went on, and by the end I was okay with how they seemed to be setting it up. I am curious about the original, I have to see if I can grab it of Amazon or something, just to see how they do thing differently.
Agree with 99.9% of what you said - .1 deducted because I actually liked the pacing of the episode, but that's totally a minor thing. I wrote my own positive review earlier because I am just in love with this show already. I mean I know I'm bias because of Liz lol, but really the episode delivered and then some! I'm hoping we get more villain!Alan guesting over the series.
And I'm so with you on the "oldschool" element. It really is classic scifi, and I love that. I'm also coming at it from not having seen the original so everything is new to me and yet it's drawn me in with pretty much zero knowledge or pre-conceived notions. I absolutely can't wait for more!
Everything on Alan Tudyk.. Those were pretty much my thoughts exactly. *wibbles* But yes. Loving this show so far. It has gone beyond my expectations of it. :D
I was so upset when Alan Tudyk turned out to be a V because I shipped them so much and I wanted them to be cute and bantery and on the Resistance and whatnot together!

It's like a mix of the Aschen and the Goa'uld/Tok'ra dynamic, but way more epic than SG-1 ever went!
WOOORD. Seriously, SG-1 kinda lost the battle here. MB does evil wonderfully, she's got the crazy look down pat.
