I just finished watching V and I gotta tell you guys,
I kinda love it a little already! I have to admit the pace of the show felt rather slow to me at first -- I think I'm getting too used to things that are always happening and there being an urgency to scenes/plotlines -- but then I got used to it and then really was able to enjoy what was going on.
There is a clear history within this show, you can feel it, even if you haven't see the original like I have, and you can sense there's a weight in every action taken. I don't know if that makes sense, but it's just how it felt to me. The preview showed a lot of the Big Scenes, but at the same time there were some awesome surprises:
a) I knew Alan Tudyk was going to be in the show, AND going to be Erica's partner, but then he was a Vistor and NOOOO!!! WAAAAASSSHHHH! Why did you have to leave me again! You had cute buddy-cop banter with Erica, you were charming and cute and not creepy like Alpha, but then you were expect this time it was worse because you tried to kill Erica and NOOOO. I liked the twist, but I wish there would have been more awesome partner scenes between him and Erica. Woe!
b) The reveal that there are good Visitors and that Ryan (??? I have to learn their names) was one? AWESOME. And his friend's face like all "wooooah! hold up there, dude, you mean you're an alien?" Loved that bit. Then I felt bad because he and his cute fiance are definitely going to have issues and he's planning on leaving her.
Besides those two things, everything was more or less expected. The Independence Day shout out was perfect, because we ALL were thinking it. And this is mostly for my Stargate SG-1 flisters, but aren't these guys soooo the Aschen, but you know, wearing skins over reptilian bodies? Thought so! And just like with the Aschen and the aliens in Independence Day, you don't trust the Vistors. They look cool and have special healing centers, but you know that they're up to some shit.
I liked that. Right away you know that these are the bag guys (expect for the good V's obviously) and that our heroes, Erica and kickass priest Father Jack, from The 4400 which I loved, will be fighting against. Erica is beyond awesome already, playing each role in her life not perfectly, but realistically. Her little convo with her son about the tagging was one of my favourite scenes of hers and then 20mins later she was kicking alien ass and taking names. Her face when she found out her bff was a V was so sad but then she stuck a metal bar in his chest after he tried to choke her. Um, badass. Father Jack, clearly, also has some fighting experience because he didn't do too bad either.
But about the V's themselves. Morena Baccarin proved to me that she could play an evil character in SG-1, and I have to admit this now, I liked her there better than in Firefly, and she does it again! She's perfectly creepy and intriguing as Anna. Plus she does very awesome "I'm better, smarter, and eviler than you" eyes. But also KARA ZOR-EL!!!!! aka. Lisa! I'm so glad she's on this show, because I adored her in Smallville -- dudes, I watched every ep she was in on SM because I fucking love Supergirl, and I think it was one of SM's bigger mistakes to cut her out of the story, but whatever -- I love that she's on this show, and playing another alien. Be it that she's a good or bad V, I don't really care atm. eta: One last thing about the V's. Talk about an awesome health care plan! I was loling all over that moment.
Something else that I loved about it: There's just something so very old school movie scifi about human vs. aliens and how the show embraces. And it was like all of my favourite discarded characters/actor from other shows found a home where they get to play around on space ships all day. Like it should be! *G*
