Hi everyone,

I went in to check on Margret earlier and found her asleep laying on her back, paws up. Of course I thought the worst to begin with but after talking to her a bit she woke up and moved into her usual curld up fluffball sleeping position. So I'm just wondering if this is normal or if I should worry?

Some pics of my fluffball... )

I had a Syrian years ago, that would sleep on his back(randomly.) I don't think it is anything to worry about. The hamster I had ,that did that, lived till he was around three years old so I don't think it had any negative effect on him (now on me I think it shortened my life span a few years from fear/shock/worry.)

Have you SEEN some of the positions I have posted of Belle's sleep positions? Just weird!

Awwww, she is so cute! I especially love that last picture.

My hamster sleeps like that sometimes too, which has resulted in one of my favorite pictures of him:

Michael (also a syrian) has several sleep positions...usually he'll curl up in his Tribble position (sleeping pretty well on his feet with his head tucked in between them so you can't tell which end is which), but sometimes I'll see him curled up on his side, or sometimes he just lays himself out completely flat on his tummy, which I call the Odo-pose ^_^ I have yet to see him sleeping on his back, but I know that would worry me too - being my first hamster, I'm constantly paranoid of him getting older/possibly dying in his sleep when I'm completely unprepared for it. It's good to read that it's completely normal! *whew*
