critter bath powder

is it safe to leave some critter bath sand/powder, inside a dwarf's cage? ive seen some people have the little baths with a little bit, in the cage at all times. or should I only let him use it, when I can keep an eye on him?

thanks!

I've always left chinchilla sand in my hamsters' cages at all times, and they've enjoyed going in there for a roll about whenever they please. I've never been able to get a hamster to use the sand "on command" so using it under supervision probably wouldn't work very well!

Make sure you get the sand and not the powder/dust, as this is safe for their little lungs. :)

Powder/dust is a no-no. Make absolutely sure the chinchilla sand you bought is labeled 'sand', the dust will absolutely shred a hamster's lungs.

And I would say it depends on the hamster. One of mine eats sand, the other is horrified by it, so... lol. If your little guy behaves with it, it's perfectly safe.

i've been using this stuff..i assumed that because it had hamsters on the cover, that it was safe for them...even though it says dust. it has a sand-like texture to it..

I use the same brand but a bigger box with chinchillas on it because it is labelled sand. I'd be wary of the powder. When you pour it does a lot of dust get in the air?
