The scratch is probably fine...I would definitely get Harriet to the vet about the lump, though, and double-check on the scratch, just in case. Good luck...it could just be a small cyst, but since hamsters' metabolic rate is so high and they are so small, little problems can quickly become big ones.
Good to know. :-) Every time I've taken one (or more!) of my hamsters to the vet (and we have a great one, too...we're moving over 1,000 miles away for my job, and I hate like hell to leave such a great clinic), the staff marvels at how friendly and non-bitey they all are...I think far too many people have the wrong ideas about rodents...that they are only "kids' pets" and that all they do is bite people. :-\
I've never seen a lump like that on my girls in the past. It looks like a tumor or cyst. I don't think it's an abscess.
The scratch looks okay. She probably just ran into something, females are always doing silly things. It does look like it may have a little dried puss on it, so if you go to the vet for the lump, just ask him/her to take a look at the cut too.
it was $55 for an exam. i called around and the price range locally was $40-145.
i live in santa barbara and not many places take hamsters so the higher end price was for the pet hospital since they didnt have exams and to see their doctor you had to pay the emergency room fee.
when i took mishki to the other vet it cost about $75. they had waived the exam fee with a new customer coupon but then they charged me for medicine and a teeth trimming (which they did without even asking me first and then demanded i pay for it!)

I've only had male hammies, but I don't think that lump is normal :/
I suggest you check it out with the vet.
Better safe than sorry.

How much did you pay at the vet? I'm just curious cause my vet always seems too expensive :/
