upping the activity on Sunday

We got out of the house on Sunday. For all that it was motivated by needing to visit the Mt. Auburn walk-in clinic, we did stay out for a while to get a few things from the store, have dinner at Pizzeria Uno, and see The Ego and the Oracle, which was graced with a reasonably full house and good energy, if not by cthulhia wearing a corset ( Read more... )

"...hav[ing] a body part removed"? Wait, what?

Well, not any part I'm really going to miss. :) I'm having a planned cholecystectomy (aka "removing my gall bladder").

yeah, I hear they pretty much do those on a drive-through basis these days. :-/ It's pretty routine, but in any event, good luck. :-)

Thanks. :-} Yeah, I'm not really too worried. My mom says a friend of hers went home one day after her mastectomy, which seems really wrong to me.

Good luck with it all. Let me know if you need anything. How much time are you taking off?

Ask the other folks who have had the same thing done how long they spent in the hospital. It'd be good to compare. Also: hospital policy, or insurance policy?

I never get any sleep in the hospital either, which is why I opted to stay only one night when I was "owed" 2 last September.

I have got to get to Ego. Maybe this weekend.

this run, anyway.
however, word of mouth has made every show fuller and fuller, and now that the band has several local "mediums" on call, they may book another run in the fall.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check with the beloved and see if Sunday works for him. They do sell tickets in advance, yes?

Thanks. :) I'm taking off the rest of this week and all of next week, and my mom is coming to stay for several days. She's taking me to and from the hospital on Thursday.

I don't know if it's hospital or insurance policy. Maybe they just figure that I don't need to stay overnight for a pre-emptive procedure?

I was out right after my surgery, too. The only reason I was there over one more night was because they did it in the late afternoon. Sleeping in your own bed will be a major plus.

I seem to remember E & J making sure I took my pain meds as I was rather out of it and lost track of time a lot so sometimes I thought it had been hours and it had, and sometimes it hadn't. So have someone else meter the meds. :) It helped that they prodded me regularly to eat something small. I remember lots of sandwiches and soup.

Overall, you're just going to be much more tired than you think you are. Mind you, I also had an infection prior to my surgery and had to have the stones removed so my body was a bit beaten up by the time it came to actually getting the gall bladder removed.

Mt. Auburn did well by me. May your surgery be completely and utterly textbook such that there will be nothing remarkable about it whatsoever in the end. :)

Thanks. :) Fortunately, my mom will be here to take care of me and make sure I get my meds and all that. :)

Mine was meant to be an outpatient surgery, but there were complications, so they kept me until they could do a visual check of my innards. I could have gone home in the evening if they'd made me, I think. :)

Yeah, complications are never fun. I had to spend two days in the hospital after my other surgery instead of one, not because the surgery went wonky, but because I reacted so badly to the post-surgical morphine drip and my lungs sort of collapsed. With luck, nothing of note will happen this time. :-}

Yeah, you don't want to stay in the hospital. It's full of SICK PEOPLE!

Good luck! May everything go as smoothly as possible.
