In rural Michigan when I was growing up in the seventies, "homo" was what you called someone who was a target of bullying. The designated person to kick and beat and punch and bully. My friends on the far left are wringing their hands over the way people in the country are supporting Dan Cathy's homophobia, thinking that it is all latent homophobia rearing its ugly head. I'm sure there is some of that, but there's something else going on here that I don't think is getting addressed

CNN just posted an article saying that gays could save $5K/year in taxes if they were allowed to file married filing joint.
This is so far from the truth that it lured me into reading it. Deep in the article it lays out the premise: the family they chose has one earner making $100K and the other earner making nothing and one child under 17.
I finished our tax returns yesterday. We turned out to be slightly better doing separate returns this year. Since I went to the bother of splitting the returns, this year I went ahead and checked out what it cost us to be married, as opposed to filing "single" and "head of household" returns

Dear admnaismith or anyone else who understands District Court rulings and Appeals:
In July the First District Court ruled that married gay and lesbian couples in the First District (which includes MA) could file tax returns Federally as Married Filing Jointly.
Now I understand as of last month this ruling is under appeal.
