It's funny that I read this after I posted an entry about Kate and I buying land in Texas. It's so relevant. You're by no means alone in how you're feeling. Trying to decide how to manage your time and how to prioritize your goals (not to mention how to figure out what they are) requires an incredibly evasive equilibrium. It's frustrating, but it falls into place. I think the coming thaw will be a welcome change. Your blood will flow freely, the pheromones will be floating around and survival will have different meaning. If you want to try living off the grid, come on down to Terlingua some time and test it out with us.

I'm excited about you two owning land. I would really like to try and do that myself some day. I have so many questions, if you don't mind, including:

Why Texas?
How did you afford it?
Are you building a shelter?
When can I visit?

There really is nothing better than Spring in the pacific northwest. It is intoxicatingly beautiful. I'm sure I will feel better with the seasonal change even though the winter here has been a total cakewalk compared to Chicago.

A year ago we were in Austin and went out to Big Bend to shoot part of a movie. Our friend Josh wrote about it.

We knew land out there was for sale and dirt cheap on ebay so our minds got moving. 5 acres for $1795. $200 a year in taxes and fees. It's real affordable.

We're heading out there in April to check out our land and get some prices on making it livable. We'll need to clear a driveway and an area for a shelter. We're looking into getting a caboose to renovate and live in. Other than that, a deck, a shed, a storm cellar? It'll be a process but we can stay in the truck at first or pitch a tent. You're welcome to visit whenever you want. We'll develop more of a timeline in April.

I am trying very hard not to say "like" unnecessarily, which proves exceedingly difficult for some reason, you know?

I DO know! I've been trying as well. Rather, I tried for awhile. And then... I needed to get my point across... It was failure.

I'm slowly getting better. It depends mostly on who (whom?) I am around. Dropping 'like' results in a lot more pauses. I bet if you replaced William Shatner's dramatic pauses with 'likes' he would sound younger...:)
