Whee yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees! There is a ray_bradbury in LJ? Why the hell didn't I look before? I guess it's that since Bradburys are so before the Internet, it didn't occur to me, which is stupid because Bradbury is good and long lasting. Most people must remember him from his tale of censorship, Farenheit 451, thanks to your English classes, and even that is a ( Read more... )

Check out the Toynbee Convector (sp?) it was a collection of good Ray Bradbury stories, that just really captured the essence of him.

Back during the early 90's late 80's(?) when they ressurected Alfred Hitchcock presents, they had a Ray Bradbury script from back in the day about a temperature at which people will commit murder... I loved the episode and just noticed as it came to a close when it said, "based on the original screenplay by Ray Bradbury" and thought it might be something for you to look up and verify with the group.... I don't know the name of the screenplay....

Thanks.

So far the only Bradbury work I've read is the Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 911, I think. I read a lot of sci-fi collections so I might have came across his story before. I read Martian Chronicles first, didn't note the author, then when I read Fahrenheit 911, I notice the author name was familar, checked, and hey!

I still haven't finished Jule Vernes's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea that I started summers, and summers ago. So I think I'll finish that first, it's a summer sort of reading, or since summer is almost over (for public school board, school starts in about 7 days, I have 15+2), I could wait until next summer. Maybe by next summer, I could make it to the west coast, and read that by the ocean.

So maybe I can check that out on Thursday. I have a summer mini-course tomorrow and the day after. On Friday I hope to attend a fair.

If I like it half as much as Martian Chronicles, it'll go on the list of books to buy when I'm better off. I plan to work my way through university so hopefully the student loan after I gradurate won't be crushing. How long did it take for you to finish yours?

The secret to paying off your college loan is to make certain you have a very steady field and a very good job lined up for when you graduate. Avoid deferrments except when you're entirley too broke to pay for the minimum payments. If you haven't already, I suggest you make a notebook and date it with one month per page(keeping the backs open). Every place that gives you a receipt, put the cost down. Just keeping this set of books will help you answer questions like, "how much do I spend on gas?" and other questions which will help you organize your finances after your first "real world" job after your degree. If you can manage to keep spending close to what it was when you were a poor broke college student, you'll have enough money left over to pay your loans off quickly.

Most of this advice was hard earned. My first loan was taken in 95, my last in 97. so it took the better part of a decade while I was working as a slave for various enterprises to plan out my escape, even working through school.
