A Boy the Bullies Love to Beat Up, Repeatedly

An Arkansan teenage boy's store was chronicled on the front page of the New York Times. He's been mercilessly bullied. The kid maintains he's straight but gay-bashing is known in the same school district, and it started after he was asked if he wanted a "certain sex toy" in a prank phone call. That's just heartbreaking. My heart goes out to him and his family, and countless others who are in his position.

I also want to know why the school districts always seem to do as little as possible to stop bullying.

FERPA is a pain in the ass, but I don't think it would stop administrators from assuring parents that the offending students have been disciplined.

Bureaucracies, and school districts especially it seems, get very defensive and do whatever they can to cover their own asses. Even if it means throwing a teacher or student under the bus (er, no pun intended).
