Book recommendations, a question for the lurkers, and GIP.

I was very surprised to read that Tanya Huff's Smoke and... books aren't selling all that well, so herewith, please, consider this a recommendation! For one thing, they're simultaneously some of the scariest *and* funniest books I've read in years. The action takes place around a cable-syndicated vampire detective show, one of the actors on it is ( Read more... )

I'm totally with you the Smoke books. She has some *lovely* character moments in the latest one between Tony and Henry (the vampire former lover). I love how the characters are learning and growing, which they manage to do in the midst of hair-raising plotlines. And the fandom references are hilarious.

Yeah, I'm enjoying watching the characters change, and not change, the way real people do. Fun, fun books!

Hi!

I've spoken up once or twice before, but I mainly lurk here. ::waves hello::

How did I get here? I think it was a link from your website from when I was in the XF and HL fandoms. I was a big Krycek fan in XF and a Methos fan in HL. I think that you are one of the people whose links to their LJ made me realize what a blog/LJ was. Of course, it took me several years to get one of my own. *g*. I was also in Mag7, but I didn't know you wrote in that fandom until a little while ago.

Currently, my main fandom is Stargate Atlantis.

And last, my hot weather icon: iced tea, the house wine of the South!I grew up in the South (am still here actually), but I didn't like iced tea until relatively recently. Of course, it took me 20-odd years to ever try sweet tea. I'm not sure how that happened, unless it's because my dad was from up North. I love sweet tea, but I don't let myself drink it often because of the calories ( ... )

::waves, drools briefly over your icon:: My. He looks good there.

Er, pardon me. Yeah. ::wrenches brain back:: Nice to gossip with you!

Mag7 I seem to write crossovers to, but that's about it. ::g:: Like the fandom, just no overwhelming desire to write it, apparently. And I was born and raised in the South, but I just can't drink sweet tea. It makes my teeth feel fuzzy. Unsweetened tea, on the other hand, I live on.

Cool! Glad you like those! I do like Farrell, in large part because he's largely unflappable. Even passed-out spies don't quite do it...

I placed a hold at the library!

I love Tanya Huff's book, "Valor's Choice." It's a sci-fi book who's main character is a kick-ass tough female Staff Sergeant. Interesting view of military life, and Huff writes GREAT action scenes.

Cool! I'll have to try that one from the library, then. I kept looking at it and going, "I like her writing, but I"m not sure I want to read this one." Thanks! Hope you like the Smoke books. Seriously -- Smoke and Shadows *did* have me looking over my shoulders...

Hi! I'm a lurker and proud of it. :) I'm pretty sure I got here from your website... but I might be wrong. I lurk mostly looking for updates of your wonderful fic.

::laughing:: No problem, I was just startled to find about 50 people watching my journal whose nicks I didn't recognize. One or two I've seen posting replies to fics I've also read, so that was kind of a common thread, but mostly I just wanted to say hi.

::cheerful:: Glad you're enjoying the fic!

Hi.

Not sure if you know who I am or not. We've conversed a few times, but mostly by email I think. Got here from HL comms. I mostly lurk most places these days.

::laughing:: No, I don't know you as crazy4rog, but cool, nice to see you again, then!

Yeah, I tend to lurk a lot, too. ::shrug:: I'd rather write.
