Questions re: career fairs

Anyone who's been to a career fair, could you reply to this? I need some information on one. Thanks!

Also, as long as I'm at it, anyone driven from Baltimore to D.C?

What kind of exhibitors show up? Are there any vendors, or is it all tech school/colleges/would-be employers? If there are vendors, what are they selling? Educational software, work programs (CAD, say, or landscaping software), pagers...?

::grin:: You're warned; I've got a *ton* of questions.

I've done Baltimore to D.C. several times. What do you need to know?

How long a drive is it, both rush hour and non, if there is such a thing? ;-> (I've got someone going from Catonsville, just off the 895 loop, to the J Edgar Hoover Building in D.C.)

Thank you!!

D.C. traffic being what it is, I'd say anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. :) I know that's not particularly helpful, but that's life in the DC metro area. On a Sunday afternoon, it's likely to be in the 45 minute neighborhood. On a Friday evening rush hour (4:30 to 7:00, generally), it will take longer, though by how much depends on how stupid people are choosing to be.

There are two main routes. Either your friend can take I-95 down, or she(? I wish there was a non-gendered pronoun) can take the Baltimore/Washington Parkway (MD 295). Personally, I'd take the Parkway, since it's a prettier drive, and usually not quite as congested. She should be sure to listen to the traffic report before committing, though, since there are only two lanes in each direction, with few exits and little pull-off room, so if there's an incident it can get really snarled up and there's no way to bail out.

::nodding:: I've got a Baltimore office FBI agent who's been transferred to D.C. and just hasn't had time to move yet, poor baby. Thank you!

For some as yet to me unknown reason they were known as 'The Milkround' in the UK. Lots of companies would do the rounds of universities, setting up stalls within a big hall on campus. Then you'd get companies 'selling' their graduate training programmes, universities plugging the idea of continuing education - MBA anyone? Doctorate? and a couple of places offering services such as CV/resume checks ( ... )
