How long a drive is it, both rush hour and non, if there is such a thing? ;-> (I've got someone going from Catonsville, just off the 895 loop, to the J Edgar Hoover Building in D.C.)
D.C. traffic being what it is, I'd say anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. :) I know that's not particularly helpful, but that's life in the DC metro area. On a Sunday afternoon, it's likely to be in the 45 minute neighborhood. On a Friday evening rush hour (4:30 to 7:00, generally), it will take longer, though by how much depends on how stupid people are choosing to be.
There are two main routes. Either your friend can take I-95 down, or she(? I wish there was a non-gendered pronoun) can take the Baltimore/Washington Parkway (MD 295). Personally, I'd take the Parkway, since it's a prettier drive, and usually not quite as congested. She should be sure to listen to the traffic report before committing, though, since there are only two lanes in each direction, with few exits and little pull-off room, so if there's an incident it can get really snarled up and there's no way to bail out.

Is actually -inside- DC itself. The beltway / Baltimore run is a straight 45 minute shot, whether you go the parkway or 95 (I did both every week for about 5 years, and it was always good for exactly 1 homework assignment

I just want the poor guys to make it to work, Kate. ::grin:: Bran's been assigned as liason to a DC bureau, but he's still living in Baltimore for the moment. Thanks for the warnings!

Oooo... does this mean you're back to work on Paving Stones? And yes, the Parkway is a pretty ride. We used that route to go from DC to Baltimore last August while we were on vacation. The husband wanted to go to a baseball game *grin*

Yup. I'm at the stage of staring at it, figuring out what the structure *needs* to be (as opposed to what it is) and trying to sort out how to catch the villain. Hence some of the questions.

Course I would've cussed some. Since this area not only makes me speed, but now I cuss worse than most sailors I know...
And I'm a very agressive driver now. No more waving people into my lane.
Just remember, using your turn signal light tends to confuse people around here. So be very careful.
