Do you even have to ask? I haven't read Erikson. I'm waiting until the last one comes out in hardback, but from what I've heard it seems he has more interest and self respect to at least finish what he started. Unlike Georgie boy who no longer gives a stuff now that he's worked out all that he has to do is stick his name on something and they'll buy it and keep him in snack food. Chris, the Aussie one
I may be in the minority here, but I really don't care for Erikson at all. I don't like his writing style, and I don't care for the way his plots unfold.
I also prefer magic in my stories to be understated and low-key, rather than so hugely important.
What George is thinking...vonlentOctober 20 2009, 15:08:13 UTC
"Oh man, I'm so bored. Writing Dance is the last thing I want to do right now. With every passing year the series becomes less and less fun to write. If I can just manage to finish Dance somewhat respectably I can sell the rights to the rest of the series--of course that's the last thing I want to do... but if I'm being honest with myself I'm not going to finish the series because I've lost the spark. I need to do what I can to become as financially comfortable as possible using ASOIAF. I'm not young anymore and I need to do the things that make me happy--be sure that the series goes down in history as 'mine' and immerse myself in HBO and football and perhaps begin writing something new--I need to remember why I chose to write in the first place. Ugh, this situation blows."
That's what I think George is thinking in his heart of hearts. Who thinks he'll end up selling the rights or hiring out and who thinks he's too proud?

You've got the man's frame of mind right, but he's got too big an ego to let someone else write the rest of it. The only way I can see that happening is if the HBO show catches up to the books and Porky is still dragging his heels, then depending on what sort of contract he's in and if they think the audience is still there, they may be able to say: either you let someone else write it or we'll sue your ample arse for breach of contract. i dont think he'll ever finish the series

i think dances will come out, or something called dances will come out, and that will be it. he just doesn't have it anymore, and it's easier to sell crap on the internet and write bad wild cards stories than to come to grips with it by trying and failing to finish his magnum opus.

Ian McNiece isn't a non entity, he's been cast as Illyrio, he's maybe not tall enough, but he's certainly fat enough. I hope he and George don't try and get on the set at once, there won't be enough room for the both of them. Chris, the Aussie one.

It's the snack food that is going to send him to an early grave.
