It's been my belief that the best way to resist the corporate appropriation of holidays is to emphasize the original intention of the holiday, no matter how illegitimate it was.
Thanksgiving is about feasting.
Christmas is about family.
Halloween is about candy costumes!
St. Patrick's Day is about getting utterly, utterly plastered.
