Groan, and the worst bit is all the "NOTHING WITHOUT 9!!!!!!!" people getting so worked up that other people are actully so worked up?! Argh, incoherence. It's the constant exhortations to unity above all that get to me--where is the room for honest debate? If this were a healthy fandom, the debate shouldn't attract so much "shhhh, antis will love this!" fear, or remarks in which that is the underlying fear. The girls might have come far, but apparently the fandom cannot sort out its internal problems without looking over its shoulder ( ... )

LOL, YES! "*sigh* I wish the other members would get chances like the more popular ones always seem to get." "How dare you suggest that the other members aren't getting loved!" "Why are people even arguing, we love everyone!!" "OBVIOUSLY EVERYONE IS EQUAL BECAUSE WE THE FANS KEEP SHOUTING POWER OF 9!" "POWER OF NIIIIIIIIIIINE!"What happens is that the argument itself is lost and the little people feel bullied and the big crowd feel all butt hurt and no one addresses the problems of promotions or that there really is an unequal distribution of not only opportunities but of attention. If fans paid attention to the certain members, more their demand would increase, which is what the fans of those "underrated" members want to bring to the attention of all these fans clamoring for the Big Four to the exclusion of the little guys. *breathes ( ... )

-shakes head- they've all been bitten by the anti bug, that's why. Either that, or they're being wilfully unrealistic. Seriously, you used to have hope for Hyo too, right? It's only because you've seen so much and bothered to think about her and compare her to other members/other dancer-singers that your view of reality (if it can be called reality, since we're all working from second or third-hand sources :O most of the time) and of Hyo's chances are such. Similarly, imagine me going into the thread and saying "Sooyoung has to fight for work because if you observe blablabla and rationally-speaking, what should she do to increase her chances?", instead of just whining "I hope Sooyoung gets work in 2010!" or blindly proclaiming "It's the year of HyoSunSooHyun in 2010!" It's immediate smackdown from fans who don't want to acknowledge that idoldom is fucking cutthroat, and that SNSD is way lucker than they can imagine, to have such a bond. (I think the WGs have it too, by virtue of their American debut ( ... )

I think it's a combination of not wanting to be a fractured fandom--when I think it is, despite what "power of 9" stalwarts want to believe, for it's difficult not to have favorites and to not be able to tell that plenty of fans are waving individualized placards at shows--and a consequence of having cultivated this kind of "we're nothing without 9" myth. If you're going to toss that phrase around, you have to sort of make yourself believe that nothing is wrong and that everyone who points out discrepancies that threaten "nothing without 9" are in the wrong and are "bad" fans. "Not true sones," if you will ( ... )

honestly my favourite member is taeyeon yoona and sica but i also start to love another member as well and i would like sme to decline the offer for yoona too..i would love to see her acting than in the show which we can hear antis comment about her everytime the show brodcast.i think the show like that just tiring her up if she will appear in another drama and need to handle both..i just wanna say one thing to all the fan of another member, dont ever say word like ''its yoona again''''why yoona why not other member''plz have some respect to yoona fan.keep that word just to your mind and not writing it .since i can respect all the other members fan feeling and not talking bad or annoying about their favourite member ,why can you...!!!!with all those comment doesn make me to love the underrated members more...!!!!-member of soompi ( ... )

That's the ironic backlash, of course, that the already underrated, underappreciated, unnoticed members will be "punished" for their upstart fans! Because these fans of the bigger members are being oh so generous for deigning to notice the other members in the first place, don't abuse this privilege by pointing out that these "little" members aren't as noticed?

I don't know. But I can understand it. Kind of? Maybe? I was very turned off by the popular members when I got into SNSD just because they were already popular, but once I got to the know the group, I was like, "Cool." Now, though attack Hyo and I'mma have to cut a bitch. Actually, no, I've reached the point where I just take it out on the fans themselves who make such comments.

So, no, now I don't understand lashing out at the member herself instead of the fans, not if you've been a fan who's been exposed to the group and enjoy the group for its dynamics.

But no one said fandom was rational!

That is why I quoted that post and made "the what the fuck" face. It was beyond illogical but then again when you are underrated its okay to get back-lashed by you other members' fans. Sad but true. Hell, us Hyo!fans has been under that same circumstance the whole 2 years since SNSD's debut.

I don't know anymore honestly. I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion really. It just started out with a voice of opinion on a matter, thinking that another person is better 'fitted' for FO. But then voicing that opinion, you cannot simply do in the soompi thread b/c it is going to be seen as point of "bashing" or show that you don't "support all 9", will be misinterpreted and you will be shunned.

I agree and it's incredibly discouraging. I don't understand how wanting another member to do FO--or anything else--wouldn't be supporting all 9 anyway. I mean, you're just supporting another one of the 9, just not the one that someone else mentioned or wants. ROFL.

I want more Hyo. ;_;

Oh, I want to read your epic post. D:

Actually, there's one Hyo!fan (which I believe it's one of us here) tried to point out where the problem is but as usual, NO ONE CARES TO READ AT ALL (well, there's one poster who cared but that's all.) *SIGH*

I don't want to repeat what we talk time and time again here. And I know it's not YoonA's fault at all that she's this famous, actually she's one of my favorite in term of personality too. And I love all the girl (what a true fan I am. <3) But it's some of popular members' fans that get my nerve. These days I saw Yoong!fans complain that they don't see her on TV as much as before, some Sica!fans ask for more of her fancams when there're tons of it on YT and recently that you described all those things about Hyo's cyworld but end up like talking to the wall! What about "Power of 9" that they always shout out? Do they even care about the lesser members who don't have much chances to do anything especially that owner "number 9" in their ranking ( ... )

Yeah, I know there're exceptions just some fans that make me :/ And like I said I love SNSD as a group, nothing the fans do will affect my love of the members for sure.

About that poster, I'm a bit surprise cause I remember a few months ago I saw he/she wrote some good things about Hyo but it's like he/she has changed his/her mind now.

And this is completely off-topic, there's this news article about celebrities charity auction. It reported that Taeng-Yul-Sica-Sunny swept top four highest price (surprisingly, Yul's socks got higher price more than twice of Sica's T-shirt there!) and they stated Hyo's name later with other 2 celebrities. I don't know if Hyo got the lowest price or not but it's still surprise to see them mentioned her name in the news. (I think SNSD divide in 2 group for first and second auction cause they mentioned YoonA's stuff already been sold.) But hey, the source is KBS, I know they're Hyo!bias just like us, lol.Reply

The fans make me get defensive about my fandom. =T *huggles Hyo*

I've always felt rubbed the wrong way seeing that poster for whatever reason. I'm not going to go back through posts to pinpoint it, but I always hesitate at seeing the poster's name come up.

I shouldn't have clicked on that because the numbers depress me:

Tae-yeon 4,400,100 KRW
Yuri 1, 740,000
Jessica 720,000
Sunny 598,600
Hyo-yeon 144,000

That gap. D: OMG, that gap.

lol thanks for referring me here greywing.

Honestly, I've been a long time lurker there and I usually go there for updates on all the new happenings and info of all the girls and I noticed how 'skipped over' some were but I thought I'd get me an account and make an effort the other day. I had my doubts about it at the time but I gave it a chance.

I don't think that is the place for me. Its more like a spazz place for fans of certain members with no real discussion going on or a place to give a true opinion or critique of group. Everyone's a fan, but does it mean that the only thing we can say is, 'omg lookk! 'xxxxx' looks soooooo cute omg'??

I like to speak my mind and in some places (like that one) that type of dialog is just not as welcome.

Anyway thanks for inviting me greywing :)

Hello and welcome. :) I don't usually pimp out my own journal, so it's kind of odd and I feel self-conscious now.

I've always lurked at soompi too; it's one of the best places to get updates and pics and vid links, really.

Feel free to look around and try not be too weirded out by some of the recent madness in the comments; there's a surprising amount of discussion sprinkled throughout the randomness. You may choose to lurk here, too, but feel free to jump into discussions.

Thanks! I'm reading the thread now and having a Hyogasm b/c I'm noticing that you guys have noticed the same things and experienced the same exact frustrations as I have with the 'fandom' and 'Power of 9!' Lately I can't help but roll my eyes everytime I see someone write that. As well as the 'Everyone will get their turn!' 'This year is SooHyoSeoSunny year!' as if to pacify fans of the underrated.

It is hard trying to pull the blindfold off people's eyes who don't want to see it. We try to yank it gently but they still refuse to see.

About that particular poster, I've had the EXACT same feelings as you guys and I was surprised/relieved you all felt that way. Seems to be one of the main ones who like to pacify the 'complainers' while maintaining the status quo of one brained cult.

I also think having anti's talk about a split within the fandom is not as bad as having a fandom that acts like sheep.

Hello. =) Sorry for all the craziness (or maybe not?).

I don't think there's anything wrong at all with having a favorite. I think it can be wrong to delude yourself if you aren't really about plugging all nine members. I think even people who do support all nine more or less equally go through moments of supporting others more than the rest.

I think individual activities are important if you want to consider the possibility that each or many of them are looking to branch out after SNSD. SNSD won't last forever, so to speak. So then what next? The time is now for them to start building up reputations and connections in preparation for that and individual activities are the best way to do it.

With your analogy with the work share, why pile up more work on a member with a tight schedule as it is?This is exactly what I find frustrating. Some members are already overworked and others are woefully underworked but that doesn't seem to factor into the distribution of work. I don't know. It's the same thing with the vocal line, really. It ( ... )
