Save me from the nothing I've become... bring me to life...

Samael was trying to assimilate, god knows he was trying. He was out of the mission and in his own place. He had gotten a job working at a book store; peaty menial work but it earned him a paycheck and kept food in his fridge and the roof over his head. Abby brought money in as well, and Samael didn't ask how or where. As long as she stayed ( Read more... )

Dean didn't know how he was supposed to digest all of this. How he was supposed to respond to any of this. All these things his brother said he had done, the person he though Lilith was trying to turn him into, he wanted to think that Sam was lying. That he was just saying these things to scare him, but when it came to the emotions that were going with them -- he didn't think that his brother was lying. And he knew when his brother was lying.

He didn't know what Sam wanted him to do though. He wasn't sure it was his place to be forgiving him for the things he'd done, when none of those things were done to him. But he wasn't going to leave his brother crying on the floor. He wasn't completely heartless ( ... )

"You're my family too, Sam," Dean pointed out, giving him a look. "I'm not gonna let them take you from me a third time. It's not happening." Dean might not come back from that one, and then where would his family be.

Samael just gave Dean a very scared look that was purely the old Sam fighting through the demon mindset. He gripped Dean's shirt, but nodded. "I'm sorry to bring all of this to you after I got you out of this. You were free and now they are going to back again..."

"Sam. Sam, listen to me." He placed his hand on the side of his brother's neck to try and get Sam to meet his eyes. "Whatever trouble you happen to bring me, I don't care. I'd rather have you here than down there any day, no matter what the consequences."

"I don't want to be just an obligation, Dean..." Samael said softly, looking into Dean's eyes. "That's what it feels like, and I don't want to be that."

"You're not," Dean shook his head. "You're a pain in the ass, but you're not an obligation. Taking care of you is my job, remember. One of the few things I actually did right."

"You do a lot of things right," he told Dean, a ghost of the conversation they had a long time ago. "And i'm your younger brother. Being a pain in your ass is part of my job."

A hesitant smile came to Samael's face. It was the first time he actually had really felt like his old human self in a long time.

"Yeah, well -- says you," Dean sighed heavily, but his tone was clearly teasing. "You still died twice. And I only brought you back the first time."

"The path sucked... but look what you got out of it..." Samael bit his lip. "I don't want to die again. I miss what I had... but I didn't have you."

"Well, not wanting to die is the first step, Sam," Dean sighed, a little relieved that he had at least that much, before sitting back against the counter and rubbing his face slightly. "I dunno about you, but I could really use a beer."

Samael sat up, a bit ashamed at how much he had broken down. He wanted to get up and get Dean one, but he was a bit drained. "Some in the fridge. Abby always gets it for me. And there is whiskey in the cabinet above the sink too."

Dean nodded slowly, bypassing the beer and going for the whiskey instead -- he would never say no to something stronger, especially with the conversation they just had.

"So. This Abby chick."

Licking his lips, Samael pulled himself up to at least sit in a stool and not on the floor. He was more than willing to tell Dean everything that happened in hell, but he wasn't going to out that Abby had been his mistress...

Still was in fact...

She didn't want to take him back to hell. She didn't even want to go back herself. She just wanted to be with him, and with Dean having been so distant and awkward, he welcomed her with open arms and bed. And he cared for her too much to just turn her away now that he finally was starting to find connection he yearned for with Dean.

"She's a friend."

"Got that much," Dean replied, before bringing the two glasses over to where they had been sitting, taking a minute to pour the liquor before continuing. "Are we talking a friend friend, or just really good pals?"

Reaching for the glass, Samael swirled the liquid before taking a long sip. "She lives here with me most of the time. I... I needed someone and so did she."

Dean nodded slowly as he took a long sip of his own. "She seems nice enough."
