I've got a lot of time for Peter Lorre, almost no matter who he's playing. If you've never seen a movie called Three Strangers (1946), track it down-totally cast against type, a part the studio wanted for David Niven. The director, Jean Negulesco, insisted on Lorre. I don't think he was a romantic lead before or ever again, except in the eyes of his audience.

As it happens, we watched it last night too -- It was one of the first things green_trilobite bought a new copy of when he got a blu-ray player. On blu-ray, I find that the woven texture's of the actors' clothes are almost hypnotic.

The Locus nods are wonderful and very well deserved. I'm glad you had a good (if cold) day out, and the second note made me snort my tea.

Novel (The Drowning Girl: A Memoir), Collections (Confessions of a Five-Chambered Heart), Novelette ("Fake Plastic Trees"), and Short Story ("Goggles [c. 1910]). I am pleased.

Congratulations.

Two goddamn shelves of "Teen Supernatural Romance." I stood there cursing that crap while an employee watched on in horror. I kept expecting her to call the police over my rather loud string of profanities.

This is the kind of thing that makes me miss you unbearably.
