Round 3 of the "pay the taxes" eBay auction is now underway. In particular, I'll point you to the very, very, very rare original edition of In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers (Subterranean Press, 2002), signed by both me and Dame Darcy. Moreover, it is made rarer by being a PC copy (presentation copy). A score for any collector. This is the first ( Read more... )

Bad enough the cows were eating the corn... but I have seen pictures of farmers giving their herds stale snackey cakes with a smile on their faces. Was happening long before the price of grains went up. :/

Thank Deities for the local farmers markets here in CT. I get good beef and fresh out of the udder milk.

oh and I missed the part about the book club. Wish I had time to read that, been wanting to since I first saw it!

Oh, the resurrected Book Club makes me happy. The Wind-Up Girl's been turning up in Amazon recommendations for years; I'll see if the library has a copy.

Christ, I misread part of this - that cows were being fed Gummi Bears. There's no hope for us. I still know people who don't believe in global warming.

Very good.

Bears, worms, whatever. It's the gummy part matters.

I still know people who don't believe in global warming.

It's just God with a giant blow drier.

It's just God with a giant blow drier.

That could almost be a Tom Waits lyric.

Ugh on the cows. Fortunately I don't drink milk and my local farmers market takes food stamps (the Beverly Hills market) and they're so happy to see someone using the program I get great discounts.

I might be very slightly lactose intolerant, but fuck that. I'll always do dairy.

Huzzah for the return of the Aunt Beast Book Club. Your literary musings have been sorely missed.

I had heard about the cow gummy bear feeding a while back and I think I just refused to acknowledge that such utter stupidity was being perpetrated. As mentioned in a previous post, the corn was bad enough. It only spurs my endeavours to find a grass-fed source for our meat.

We really are trying to kill ourselves it seems, and as slowly and as painfully as we can. Let alone these poor animals.

The sooner the better for the planet at least.

What is even more disturbing is the fact that the gelatin in gummy candy is made from animal matter.

So cows-- natural herbivores-- are being fed the ground bones and organs of other animals.

This how we get cannibal cows-- and BSE.
