"I never took my true heart. I never wrote it down."

Round 3 of the "pay the taxes" eBay auction is now underway. In particular, I'll point you to the very, very, very rare original edition of In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers (Subterranean Press, 2002), signed by both me and Dame Darcy. Moreover, it is made rarer by being a PC copy (presentation copy). A score for any collector. This is the first Dancy story post-Threshold. Please bid if you can. Thanks.

Finally, Sirenia Digest #81 has gone out to subscribers. I promise I'll never be that late again. Scout's honor.

I spent yesterday reworking chapters One and Two of Fay Grimmer. I can't say how many words I wrote, not given the way I'm having to write this now. But nowhere near 1,500 words. Frankly, I just want this novel to be over. I've not had so little interest in writing a book since...the Beowulf novelization in 2007. Fay Gimmer is something I have to live through, and for which I am being paid. If readers like it, I'll be grateful. But it is presently my nemesis, which I am beating into submission. Blah, blah, anyway. I have, through various peculiar alchemies, managed to "buy back" a minimum of ten days in October that will be put towards this book (and might save my life). Which rolls the clock back, so that this is actually - in Fay Grimmer time - only September 13. Which rocks. Maybe I'll retitle it Fay Grimmerer. Anyway, yeah, Book 2 in the Happy Family Urban Fantasy Product.

I just keep telling myself, Self, any moment now you'll wake up and The Drowning Girl: A Memoir will have spent three months on the NYT Bestseller's List.

Oh, if I ever lose my legs,
I won't have to walk no more. ~ Cat Stevens

I'm enjoying GW2, and, despite the idiotic holiday event shit, I'm still a fan of Rift. But - you might want to sit down - I will no longer be seeking RP, not for the foreseeable future. Just gaming, no MMO RP. Not after seven+ years of (mostly) astounding disappointment. Instead, I'm going to read and get more sleep and go Outside and hang out with people and, you know, normal Real Life stuff.

Speaking of reading, I also hereby decree that Aunt Beast's Book Club is, at this moment, resurrected. Only, we're going to do two books a month, instead of one. Though there's only time for one in September. That one is Paolo Bacigalupi's The Windup Girl (2009). Ignore the fact that Wikipedia calls it "biopunk." Everything has to be 'punked these days, it seems. The novel's turning out to be fairly decent. So, yes. Book Club. Booya.

Just in case melting Arctic icecaps and hottest summers on record and fun stuff like that have failed to convince you how much we've fucked up the planet, and how unfriendly it's quickly becoming to this human civilization, here's a grotesque bit of news: "Sweet times for cows as gummy worms replace costly corn feed." I hope I don't have to elaborate on the serious health risks, to cows and humans. I mean, unless you believe the teeth, digestive tract, metabolism, and circulatory system tract of bovines evolved to consume gummy worms. Or that the milk these cows will produce is actually going to make us healthier. This is just another sign of the New Normal, kittens. Fortunately, here in Rhode Island, we get local milk from grass-fed cows (antibiotic and hormone free).

Now, it's back to the word mines....
