"There's a starman, waiting in the sky."

Yesterday was a thing I almost never have. Yesterday was a damn near perfect day. A day that sucked in no perceivable way, and was filled with things that were actually good ( Read more... )

I'm 36 and apparently sound like a teenager/undergrad on the phone. Which was disconcerting at my last job when one caller assumed I was a high school student and another one -- on the same day -- told me I had a "phone sex" voice. Really.

I confess I've never gotten into the podcast thing, but it does sound like a fabulous idea. And if you try it and start to stress out over the readings, maybe you could convince Spooky or a visiting friend to take a guest turn at the mic now and then. It isn't the same as hearing the author read, no, but it would still be interesting, especially if it led to discussion of the piece afterward.

Spooky's pretty good at reading my stuff, but I don't think it's something she'd want to do for a podcast.

I don't mean to derail your day, but the mention of transgender issues begs that I ask if you wanted to say something about today's "Spirit Day" event.

"No," of course is a very reasonable response as I do recall these kinds of advocacy/awareness events/issues tend to get your hackles up and wreck any work you were actually trying to do.

It's something I should have mention, yes. But I didn't, and that's a failing on my part. I just didn't have it in me today.

I don't even know if that makes sense.

That is all you needed to say. I know talking about how humans should not be burbling asswounds to each other fatigues you (and most rational people).

Damn, too slow again.

Anyway, I think the photos turned out great, and are good ones even by the standards of your LJ. Thanks!

I would say skip the audio scene unless/until you find pros to do it the way you like. I'm not usually snobby about fan/amateur productions, but when it comes to readings, yes. Yes, I am. It's like nails on a blackboard to me. And if you were going to be doing it yourself, in order to hit any kind of quality control you'd need to spend a lot of time listening to the tracks and re-recording... which it sounds like wouldn't be any fun for you either. Also, the written word is SUPERIOR! ;)

I'm thrilled that they have restored Ladd Observatory! In the 70s, I was convinced that Brown would simply allow it to fall into desuetude until it literally collapsed.
What a place for a Steampunk soiree. The clocks alone. . .

That clock--! Would you ever write a story about somebody who lived in an observatory? I would love to read you describing the clock (if that makes sense), and the telescopes, and I always love the clarity of your astronomical descriptions - they have a documentary sharpness and power to them.
