Not with a bang, but a flood of white noise.

I've long since lost track of the times that some sf reader, usually someone in SL, has told me how much hesheit loves the work of Orson Scott Card, and then I've had to explain that, regardless of whatever talent Card may (or may not) possess as an author, I cannot see past his religion-based bigotry to even try to enjoy his work. And, usually, ( Read more... )

So, thanks Anita, from the bottom of my wicked heart, because for every reader like you who "gets it," there are a thousand more I leave wondering why they didn't read some tripe by Larell K. Hamilton

I love you. That was just full of win. But, I think "tripe" might be kind. ;) I used to read her, now I just snark. Oh, and for the record, I loved Daughter of Hounds. Loved. And if you write another with those characters, I will read it. And make others read it as well.

Now there's a contest, finding the truly fitting adjective for LKH's writing.

d if you write another with those characters, I will read it. And make others read it as well.

Thank you.

Why get yourself in an uproar over Orson Scott Card, of all people. The man wrote one good book in his entire life, and has spent the last thirty years milking that teat until it's spurting blood instead of milk. And besides, he's a Mormon. The only thing stupider than a Christian is a Mormon.

Because I do not silently suffer even inconsequential fools.

Then again, I'm not sure he is inconsequential. Our taste does not dictate his effect on culture. I'm am so bloody sick of otherwise sane people prattling on about what a fine novel Ender's Game is.

That's 'cause you're a Total Bad-ass, not a lazy fool like me. :) I don't suffer fools, I just ignore them as urrelevant until they become so much of a nuisance that they finally register on my radar, at which point I go into Vituperative Bastard Mode.

Ender's Game is an okay book--I liked it a lot more when I was in highschool and played all manner of wargames on the computer, so I sort-of felt like Ender Wiggin--but I've NEVER thought it to be the Great Science-Fiction Novel that so many think of it. It's not. Quite frankly, I kept cheering for the buggers to win and render humanity extinct.

I went to Amazon UK to see about pre-ordering the MMP but was completely stymied to find some odd results when I searched your name. Did you write some kiddy movies or is Amazon on crack today?

I hope it gave you a laugh and that you are feeling better today. With any luck the weather will cool off for y'all and stay that way for a while.

'Give me your children until they are six, and they will be queer surly misanthropes forever.'

...Actually, I think Queer Surly Misanthropes was Morrissey's first band.

I don't know that you want commentary on the Orson Scott Card diatribe, if you don't, please feel free to ignore/delete the below ( ... )

Long story short, he stays on his side of the fence, I'll stay on mine. I may continue to read things he writes, but if he was in my area giving an anti-homosexuality lecture, I'd be outside picketing.

I'd never deny a moron the right to express his or her views, and I'm not saying don't buy or read his work. What I am saying is that he is a moron, and a bigot, and that -- though I also try to hold art and politics separate -- I will not, personally, tolerate this sort of hate mongering. It is inexcusable and does real and immediate harm.

I am so pleased that my article resonated with you. I am also more than pleased that you may write again of Soldier and Emmie.

Well, again, thank you. It truly made my day, your article.
