So, read this review by someone at Tor. It pretty much sums up my own feelings.
A lot of that's pretty close to what I wrote in my review for last season's finale and this season's premiere. The writers seem less and less able to get their heads into the fictional world and the decisions of the characters are based more and more on real life needs like budget and who can be fired and who can't. I do like the idea of a character like Negan, who is a sort of feudal warlord in this zombie environment, but I wish the writers had thought of a more organic way of incorporating him into the show.
My daughter felt the same about the season 7 premiere of TWD. I couldn't watch much of it at all. I don't normally watch it but was going to watch it w. her and I admit I was not prepared for the senseless violence. In disgust she took TWD off the DVR setting to record each week. She is still mad about the suspense over who died and the ongoing brutality and what she called psychological manipulations.
I thought being closer to Huntsville would mean something as far as state tensions here in Trumpland but no. The locals in our 'burb are RED to the bone and growing bolder in their veiled threats and outright call to revolution if on Nov 9 their 'Fearless Leader*' is not elected.
*Rocky and Bullwinkle reference bc I can't seem to think of another Russian speaking characters than Boris and Natasha*
