I'm working on my plan to topple the Twilight fanbase.

I feel like it has to be something that seems too simple, discreet.

Infiltration and then shattering, like hitting a glacier with a thumbtack in exactly the right spot to take it down.

Or something Project Mayhem style. You know, whatevs.

My best idea last year was just randomly shouting, "No, Robert Pattinson, I don't care if you're drunk and horny, I will not make out with you!" Although it would be better paired if we hired like, a hobo to pretend to be him and then Pied Piper the fangirls away from wherever we wanted to be. It requires some sophisticating but I think we could make it work.

Fact: I know someone who looks like Robert Pattinson. All we have to do is get him to stand outside and then run away. THIS PLAN COULD ALSO COME TO FRUITION. WE ARE AWESOME.

I be going! :D :D

I'm an out-of-towner (Seattle) and a first-timer so any info will probably do me worlds of good. :)

Excellent! I may try to get some people together to write a guide for first timers with tips on what to expect. I'll update here when I know more! :)

Yay! But yeah, I don't know why they didn't do the four-days at the same time as exhibitor/professional/press registration. They should have even done it first, in case people got denied, so they could get a second chance!

I've flown American the past couple times I've gone across the country, 'cause they've been the cheapest, and Southwest just started service from LGA, which could be good... though it looks like they aren't taking reservations for that far in the future yet! But hopefully it will all work out.

OMG THAT IS THE BEST NEWS! I'm hoping that like, 50% of the presales were from Twilight people, who will now discard their tickets and not show up... mmmm, empty exhibit floor...

I'll totally be there! And I'm coming ALLLLLLLLLLLL the way from Chicago. xD

I'M SO EXCITED!
I have no idea where I'm staying though... hmm. Any suggestions? I wanted to stay at the Hard Rock, since people seem to meet tons of celebrities when they stay there, but I'm not sure how expensive it is. :/

Awesome! I have family/am from the area, so I've never had to deal with hotels... from what I've gathered, it can be a headache though, so you may want to get that arranged as soon as you can! SDCC has a pretty good free shuttle system (as well as city public transpo via trolleys and stuff), and there's nothing to stop you from hanging out at the Hard Rock even if you're not staying there :)

Lucky! Haha alright cool. I've been trying to book my flight, but Southwest Airlines won't let me yet. D: Hopefully I'll figure this all out soon. Thanks, bb! <3

long comment, but i hope it helps you :) tigera4j November 10 2009, 02:38:23 UTC
I'm pretty sure all the hotels closest by the convention center are sold out except the luxury suite types. I started looking in September and The Keating was pretty much the only Gaslamp hotel that had cheaper rooms (my limit was $250/night before tax), and this is with AAA or the Kiwi rate.
When I finally called to make reservations a few weeks ago, Keating was sold out except the most expensive suites. Most of the Gaslamp hotels are going to be around $300-400/night (plus the dreaded parking fee!) at the cheapest.
Hotel Day or whatever it's called will probably have better rates, but I don't know how much better, and that depends on how quick you are.

Like ihateclooney said, any hotel with a stop from the SDCC free shuttle will be good. I've been told the downtown area is sketchy, unless walking by homeless people at night doesn't faze you. It's probably nothing super dangerous, but I'm a petite female who'll be by herself and I don't want to take any chances ( ... )

I've got my pass and hotel room (which was a headache already even in October lemmetellyou) all set up, so I'll be there all 4.5 days.

I'm excited! I'll be driving down and hopefully stopping to catch up with friends, so it's like a mini-vacation for me :)
