Ever Get the Feeling You've Neglected a Fandom?

Jan 14, 2012 09:07

I got a huge dose of that feeling yesterday.

I love reading novels about Prequel Trilogy Star Wars, and occasionally an Old Republic novel as well. Matthew Stover's Revenge of the Sith is SHEER BRILLIANCE. His work will be my role model for any and all sci-fi I choose to write.

More Star Wars fan babbling . . . )

Heh. I think I had that feeling a few months ago, when I realized I'd missed a Hanson concert. It's weirdly disorienting, isn't it? And you feel sort of guilty, as if the writer/artist/whatever would know you haven't been paying attention to them lately.

Yes, it is disorienting and it does make you feel guilty. I partially atoned for it by keeping my promise to myself and going to Barnes and Noble, but I was a little let-down by the book itself. I'm only half-way through, and aside from a few awesome bits of scathing dueling and dialogue, most of the book is technical jargon and political set-up that bores me. At one point, I was flipping through pages in search of MOAR LIGHTSABERS and getting distracted by a girl ogling anime while wearing a Star Wars in concert hoodie and Batman pajama bottoms. :)

LOL--now that is some serious fandom representation.

And I get what you mean about the MOAR LIGHTSABERS though. I've only read one of those 'expanded universe' books, and it was interesting, but not nearly enough action.

Which of the movies is your favorite? I'm a purist, myself--I prefer the original, theatrical versions of the original trilogy, with 'Empire Strikes Back' as my fave of the three.

I used to prefer the Original Trilogy, since the Prequels have a sad lack of Darth Vader (I wanted Anakin to go all-out Dark Side directly after his mom died, so the entire third Prequel movie could focus on Sith awesomeness). But over time, I came to enjoy the Prequels more, thanks to MOAR AWESOME LIGHTSABER DUELS (getting a real martial artist to play Darth Maul was brilliant) and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. Especially Padawan Obi-Wan. *drifts off into a galaxy far, far away*

Oh, wait, you asked me which movie I liked the best. Definitely Revenge of the Sith. Few things are more amazing than the Battle of the Heroes. Two hunks trying to kill each other with lightsabers--what more can a girl ask for? ;)
