'Sunshine and merriment'? No way I'm taking that at face value. When have we ever had a 'civilized vacation' kinda port two months in a row?

We haven't had anything horrifying yet this year. We're due.

Last month wasn't exactly a walk in the park. Although I realize that you have a higher threshold for 'horrifying' than most people.

I actually thought that was sort of fun

I mean in a port. We haven't been stranded with the ghosts of everyone that hates us or flayed alive yet.

I guess. That place with the mutant ants was pretty harsh but the rivers weren't flowing with blood or anything.

Never, that's when.

Maybe when he says 'sunshine' he means 'when you get there, the sun will have supernova-d and is about to swallow the Earth'.

If this place doesn't teach you 'be careful what you wish for', nothing will.

What was it like for you, when you graduated? I mean...what did you have to do?

I had to go home and chose not to shoot someone. I had to make the decision to stick my gun in the face of the man who killed Thomas, and my mother and not take the shot.

But how'd you get to that? The process of you becoming the person who'd make that decision. What was it like?

...

I...realize that isn't the most articulate question ever.

Well, Salem and Germany were only like one month apart last year? ...Followed by a year of chaos and darkness, sure, but that describes any given Tuesday.

Salem was October, Germany was December, so that's not consecutive. Also Germany wound up under like six feet of snow in an unending blizzard.

But I get your point.

No, but--one month between them! ...And then another ten before we got Paris. And honestly, I wasn't really a fan of Germany anyway.

I was going to say something about how a little optimism never hurt anyone, but then I realized not being optimistic might have prevented a lot of crap. So... low expectations didn't hurt anyone?

I'm a fan of pessimism. Total worst-case scenarios don't usually happen, sooo either every day is a pleasant surprise, or it isn't and you're already braced for it.

You're welcome. So, everything's okay?

Yeah.

As a general observation? When Kirk says something about me, it's probably not accurate.

I'll keep that in mind. Sorry I got defensive.

Not a problem. You did what you had to do.
